The hood, the ghetto, the bottom, whatever u wanna call it.

What has been the overall impact of making the above seem "cool" and damn near synonymous with "blackness" had on the overall psyche of black folk in your opinion?

Ghettoes/hoods were a result of systemic oppression tactics so its kinda perplexing how a portion of the black population today think you're "less than black" if you either didn't grow up in it or strive to get out.

Its almost like we've been brainwashed to identify OURSELVES and each other with poverty and lower-class.

Speak on it.

Above the fray.
I wasn't around but I've heard multiple times that black folk weren't fukking with The Cosby Show like that at the beginning because they couldn't wrap their minds around a POSITIVE, EDUCATED and UPPER-CLASS representation of black life.

Was this true?
that's false and whoever told you that was lying...or you are reaching to make your point

everybody loved that show just that it depicted a setting that most could not personally relate to.
less than 1% of Americans had doctor/lawyer dad and mom.
people loved it regardless because it showed a loving family and most could relate to that and cosby is a comic genius

Oh god here we go with the high horse shyt :snoop:
What’s wrong with praising where we come from? If you ain’t from the hood this question doesn’t apply to you
i think you and op are coming from 2 extremes...disagree with you both here actually

people praise the negative aspects of the hood instead of the resiliency and drive that are forged there

That shyt affected White People more than us lol.

We proud of where we from (Not to mention the majority of places that are considered the hood is just a catchword for Majority Black areas, like PGC or Baldwin Hills).

U nikkas just want something to complain about.. Our problems don’t stem from how we view where we live.

There’s nothing wrong with being proud of and not ashamed of where you come from but to glorify it is something different altogether.

That’s not true at all. I hear people praise all aspects. Nobody turns nothing into something better than us

Well nobody glorifies anything they aren’t proud of. Growing up in rough circumstances and surviving is most certainly something that should be glorified

out of the last 20 times you saw or heard the term "hood" , how many of those times was it about something positive? in real life?
I can’t recall the last 20 times breh:heh:

But I will say that just as recent as nye somebody I know who flips property was talking about starting a non profit that would help low income families in the hood become homeowners
