Believe me though if the division or wild card is on the line then that atmosphere will return. Still gets the biggest ratings for baseball even in April.

Steinbrenner dead. Torre and Francona out as skippers. Yankee stadium no more. Also take into account the Rays being more relevant and becoming secondary rivals in the division.

Basically a lot of changes in recent years have made it fizzle. It will eventually pick up again. Been going on for damn near a century so it's bound to happen again just like it did around 2003.
