Put me on cause idk what I readLearning modes and thinking of melody as rhythm really helped me....
I hate it though and would rather create melodies based on some harmonic structure than the other way around....
Sometimes I'll play some keys over a sample and use that... or chop and screw or splice samples to mine melodies over a set of more complex harmonic changes.. ( plunderphonics ).....

Modes - Musical flavours, for example Dorian typical found in modal jazz like Miles So What for example.....Lydian typically found in film composition etc, Simpsons theme....I will add links that go in depth....
Plunderphonics- I basically use multiple samples in the same key to develop a motif or musical idea by playing over the sample or just by ear, then get rid of the sample and further develop that idea into a beat.....Technique inspired by this (Plunderphonics - Essay - Essay by John Oswald)
