but that's kinda the comedy. It's like Lynch and Shanahan are fundamentally at odds. The only way to get the rookies playing time is obligation, but if we are in a situation where it is obligatory that the coach play them, then it is a failing of the GM because there's a derth of depth. But if we have enough depth, then the GM's drafting looks subpar because we grab a bunch of guys to pay and sit and contribute nothing.
I just hope the team decides to get themselves a great T. Don't even get a college RT. Get a college LT that can play RT now and will move over to LT when Trent is gone. But that's an unsexy pick that I suspect won't get made because they'll try and look like they're doing something with the draft pick because of how quiet the team has been in FA.
It's just disheartening because all of the major playoff teams from last year have added at least a major piece to get them over the hump. And sure, the team can assume that without the injuries, last year woulda gone differently but... none of those injuries from last year are realistically going to be ready to go this year, and the team is about to go into this without even the scapegoat of a DC to blame.
Eagles seem to being going full-on offense at the cost of defense.
Chiefs finally got someone who might be able to be a threat on the outside.
Ravens... oh lawd Baltimore been moving.
And meanwhile. Here's SF. Their one big swing got curved. They've made cap space to keep people. But unless they plan on going into next year with a different philosophy installed... nothing tells me this team isn't going to be the same as last year, but a year older, trying to run the same stuff they were running against teams that have a whole year to get ready for it.
Deebo need to be in the backfield more often this year.
Not pitches or motions. I mean 2021 shyt. If 23, 85, 44 and 1
9 are all on the field at the same time, there should be absolutely no reason the impending personnel should be readable to opposition.
From those 4 people, you should be able to run
- wishbone splitback
- 2-TE lead block I-formation
- singleback 3-wide
- empty backfield
without a single sub. And yet, we don't see it. Team should have a drive every game where they do hurry-up
just because. Not for clock management, but to put the fear of god in opposing defenses because of the amorphous nature of the personnel. Kyle's been obsessed with positionless skill players since he got to Santa Clara and outside of the necessity of 2021, we almost never get to see that utilized. Partially because the O-Line is dogwater. But it's time to start doing something different with this scheme if the team is going to continue investing heavily into tweener players.
Investing all this money into a FB who tbh rarely ever pulls a defender away from the play on passes, a
great receiving TE who spends 80% of snaps blocking, a WR/RB who doesn't want to rush, and a RB/WR who they constantly send between the tackles.
It's... baffling.
