Well you can hit up local up and comers on twitter in your area or decent sized names that dont have a "set team". Try getting in touch w/ dept heads on there.

PMPWorldwide got me in touch w/ some big heads at Atlantic Records. I just hate that the big names on there dont have to pay a monthly fee. So I cut that out.

Nowadays its wild. They want actual "producers" now. Not beatmakers. No more money in the industry to throw at someone or something that aint a sure thing. Thats means having vocals/hook references to your beats for these lazy fukks. That means being your OWN A&R/label/etc. For example:

My nikka Knucklehead was doin bullshyt productions like I am right now. He did shyt for Gucci, Cash Out, etc. Didnt really get him NOWHERE...

Found a singin nikka named August Alsaina and now he's got a slow burn hit called "I Love This shyt". Produced by.. Knucklehead. :leon:

Yeah the actual producer thing is so true, and it's a lot taller of an order than just making beats. The thing is, the golden age of hip-hop in the industry is over, and now on the mainstream level they're looking for pop style records with a hip hop influence, because they're playing the searching for a hit game.

The only way to exist in that world without compromising to it's demands is to build your own organic movement outside of the major label system. shyt is hard, it's like lottery odds. I'm in the same boat with Funeral, I'm just making the music that I'm most attracted to, and let the chips fall where they may.

Thats exactly it. I was on a "only Trap beats" schtick this summer but now I'm trying to make music that is universally dope.

Mike Will is cool but his shyt aint being played to advertise iPhones, etc. like Kanye's Black Skinhead. He's got a cash cow now in Miley. I'd be in talks w/ her asap bout a production/label deal if I was MWMI/Eardrummas

When I first started all I wanted to do was Boom Bap sh*t. As I progressed and started to branch out and try making different styles of music is when I think I actually became a Producer and not so much just a beat maker. My goal at 1st was to have a sound to where people would be like "Yea that's R.L." but as time went on I started to like the fact that people didn't think I made a certain track / song because it didn't sound like what I normally do. For instance, I dropped this in 2007 and didn't let really anyone hear it till we performed it at a show in NY

and immediately followed by

Today, I have a better understanding as far as placements are concerned, what the "industry" is looking for as far as sound, etc. But I also learned not to pigeon hole yourself into making a certain style of music. Some producers worry about having their own "nitch / sound" but I found that if you just keep working and the creativity is still there, your sound will naturally flourish. Most Producers from the highest high to the lowest of low have habits that they never really get rid of though they may evolve with it.

I consider myself a versatile producer who can explore in all different styels. I consider myself a producer who strives for creative innovation. I don't try to make my beats sound like other producers. I try to be me in my beats. And this is a prime example.

I made this beat from the soul, it's my most meaningful beat.

I guess I'm going for the legacy producer thing now. Since I started it's now become more than music but about pushing different ideas and directions forwards. I'm working on some new material now to reflect that. I'd like to be making music and DJing for 20 + years now and I can definitely see myself still making music then.
