Alot of people here seem to make tracks for other rappers, but I make tracks for myself. I don't really know anyone to work with singer or mc wise and I've always made tracks on my own and have for over 15 years, so I guess I would just classify myself as someone who is just an artist who makes beats. More electronica driven. I figure I would share the stuff I've worked on over the years with you and get some feedback/discussion on producing as an artform.

I'm actually trying to step up my trap beat game. The next couple of songs I wanna work on are gonna be more trap/juke sounding.

I would consider myself a jack of all trades or that's def. what Im trying to go for these days.

Starting out, I was all about the samples up until last year when I finally coped a midi keyboard and a couple vsts and really tried to branch out. I'm from New York so finally moving away from there and just being around other people in diff. states and countries made me wanna make music that these cats can vibe to etc.

Focused on my own projects. The beat game is oversaturated, Either produce for yourself, your own artist(s), or be an in-house. Them freelance days are over.
Hell yea ive quickly realized that you wont get anywhere without regular customers. Keep producing with the same people and build a sound, then people will start to ask whose making all the beats.

Good question, I've bounced around a lot of styles so I'd say I'm an experimental producer looking for a sound I can latch onto.

I just listen to such a broad range of shyt, and I end wanting to try it all :snoop:

Good advice.

I personally have always had a hard time organizing with people so I just like working alone anyways. I like just coming up with music, recording it, and not paying attention to what other people think or say about it. I like coming up with album covers on photoshop and making my own mini projects and not being constrained by deadlines or anything like that matter. I feel that's actually where I've been acquiring a following by just doing that. I'm influenced by so much music and listen to so much music that it just comes out in whatever I do. I consider people like Aphex Twin, autechre, Squarepusher, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Organized Noize, Timbaland, Boards of Canada, and so many other people. But I always like to do my own thing.

It's kind of like constructing my own personal worlds and visions. And going on my own adventures.

I used to have this mentality of wanting to "blow up" but I'd rather just focus on makin my own brand of music with no constraints. I've had some indie records labels entertain me with the opportunity of releasing records on their label, but I just like having my own bandcamp/weblabel and working that. I really just made it so I could put new music I make up there.

Any advice on finding rappers/labels? Idk how to get into the scene, its harder for me cus i dont do trap or boom bap.
Well you can hit up local up and comers on twitter in your area or decent sized names that dont have a "set team". Try getting in touch w/ dept heads on there.

PMPWorldwide got me in touch w/ some big heads at Atlantic Records. I just hate that the big names on there dont have to pay a monthly fee. So I cut that out.

Nowadays its wild. They want actual "producers" now. Not beatmakers. No more money in the industry to throw at someone or something that aint a sure thing. Thats means having vocals/hook references to your beats for these lazy fukks. That means being your OWN A&R/label/etc. For example:

My nikka Knucklehead was doin bullshyt productions like I am right now. He did shyt for Gucci, Cash Out, etc. Didnt really get him NOWHERE...

Found a singin nikka named August Alsaina and now he's got a slow burn hit called "I Love This shyt". Produced by.. Knucklehead. :leon:

wow that song has 9 million views

I havent gotten into the scene here idk if there is one. Im hoping one day ill find someone on the internet with potential. Having to make hooks sucks i dont see why that should be my job, none of the real good artists have their producers write hooks atleast the good ones. I doubt im the only one with this dream but i want to start something like TDE, being an inhouse producer is my goal. Luckly i have a emcee im working with i produced the majority of the album and the beats off that are fresh. But my best stuff idk what im gonna do with it, i dont want a scrub rapper to use them and i doubt they would figure out how to, yet obviously its hard to get in touch with good artists.

I can show you some of my best stuff if youd like, id really like an opinion on what i should do with them.

having that blow up mentality is killer, it will drive you crazy. I only recently got over that but when the beats start piling up and theres no one to use them it gets frustrating. I love making music but in the end i want to make a full hip hop record, thats whats truly satisfying.
