What is your best College Football Playoff tourney idea? 8 or 16?

We have finished most of the 1st year of the CFP, and no one seems to be happy about seeding, byes, teams. So how would you setup the future tournaments.
(These are all in theory, since I read that for the format to change, all conferences need to 100% agree on the change, so the chance of the ACC, Big 12 and G5 giving up byes/higher seeds are slim)

My idea:
16 team bracket, but all 10 conf champs get in. This leaves 6 at large (including Notre Dame). Conf champs do not get higher seeds though. Higher seeds host 1st round.
This year would have been:
(16) Jacksonville St @ (1) ORE
(9) Boise @ (8) IND
(12) Clemson @ (5) ND
(13) Army @ (4) Penn St
(14) Ohio @ (3) Texas
(11) Arizona St @ (6) Ohio St
(10) SMU @ (7) Tennessee
(15) Marshall @ (2) Georgia

SMU still gets last spot. Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss still miss out due to all the conf champs getting in. But this eliminates the byes AND gives all the top seeds 1 earned home game. Most would still be blowouts though.

No one will ever agree to all 10 conference champs getting in. There’s no universe in which the power 5 will sit there and be cool with Marshall and co., taking up spots from Miami or Bama.

Also, you would have to get rid of conference championship games. The reward for winning your conference can’t be that you play one more game than everyone else.

My better idea:
16 team bracket, still only 1 G5 champ still in. This leaves 11 at large (including Notre Dame). Conf champs do not get higher seeds though. Higher seeds 1-4 host 1st round, and the other 4 matchups are neutral sites (make 4 more bowl games bigger games. Games in Las Vegas, Houston, Indianapolis or Detroit, and Orlando)
This year would have been:
(16) Clemson @ (1) ORE
(9) Boise vs (8) IND (Las Vegas or Houston)
(12) Arizona St vs (5) ND (Indianapolis)
(13) Miami @ (4) Penn St
(14) Ole Miss @ (3) Texas
(11) Alabama vs (6) Ohio St (Las Vegas or Houston)
(10) SMU vs (7) Tennessee (Orlando)
(15) S. Carolina @ (2) Georgia

For those neutral games, the higher seeds get to choose the site of the 4 available they play at, starting with #5. #8 gets whats left over. Then, the other rounds are just as they are now.

This way, all the main teams get in, all play in 1st round, and you get rewarded for being Top 4 with a home game. And 4 other bowls games/areas get a huge game.

Iunno bro. If youre gonna do 16 teams you gotta shorten the regular season by at least 1 or 2 games

Not really to be honest, as 2 of the 4 teams left will play 4 playoff games. Penn St can play 17 games. They gotta move the season up to start on that Week 0 though. 8 of those teams are only playing 1 extra game, pretty much their bowl game

I could see all 10 conference champs getting in, only in a tournament with a minimum of 5 rounds, which would be crazy ... these are students after all and they need time to study and keep those GPAs up.

With the bloated conferences, there is no way to get rid of the conference championship games. Too many teams to sort through. Plus, that means the preseason rankings (which need to go and arent fair), hold too much weight.

Also, that first weekend would be like the 1st round of the basketball tournament. 2 games Friday, and 6 Saturday. Dope weekend
Friday-
7pm (Ariz St/ ND)
9pm (Clemson/ Oregon)
Saturday-
12p (Miami/Penn St)
1:30p- (SMU/Tenn)
3p- (SCar/ Georgia)
4:30p- (Ole Miss/Texas)
6pm (Boise/Indiana)
7:30p- (Alabama/Ohio St)

The only way to make it work is to blow it up completely and realign conferences, then make a tournement of champions.

Reform the heritage pac 10, reform the 10 team big ten. That is one superconference with 20 teams everyone has 9 division games, 2 out of division games, 1 ooc game.

The combined SWC, Big 8, and new big 12 teams = 21 teams. Kick out cincinatti and you have another 20 team superconference. See above.

(Ill continue later)

Eight. With the top 8 CFP teams in, the only stipulation is if conf champ is in the top 10 they're in the CFP:

1. Oregon vs 8. Boise
2. UGA vs 7. Tenn
3. Texas vs 6. OSU
4. Penn State vs 5. ND

You penalize SMU for losing the ACCCG and Indiana for that weak ass schedule.

You are still giving Boise and Go5 love.

SEC fanboys won't bytch and complain with three losses.

I agree, which is why there will continue to be a bye.

no. playing 17 games in college is ridiculous.
i think 8 is more than enough.

4 power conference winners who get home games and then 4 at large bids

You actually think the ACC and Big 12 going to vote for none of their teams to make the playoff? :russ:.

All of you are creating worse systems than what is in place.
