Yeah, I noticed nobody explained how it's a watershed moment.

I did but you ducked it. Just behind the camera stuff. Directorial stuff that you'll really only care about if you're like an extreme film geek. Wide angle shots which weren't really done before then, editing techniques that weren't done before then, etc. As far as film goes, it's as influential as the jazz singer

I took a few film classes as an undergrad. This was required watching. It is racist as hell, but it changed cinema forever. The moving camera, the directing, we're all groundbreaking at the time. It pushed movie making forward substantially. If you're a film buff, it's kinda something you gotta watch despite the terrible racism and KKK propaganda.

Basically. It's called COGNITIVE DISSONANCE lol. Cats act like it's impossible, utterly impossible, to look at something and understand how it's racist as hell but also look at it purely from a clinical standpoint at the same time and how those two can coexist. You don't have to love what the flick is talking about in order to watch it and understand its importance. Hitler was racist as fukk too but he was clearly influential in history and marked a changing of the guard in a lot of ways. Understanding history of any kind, whether it be film or your own country, is so important to understanding your present and your future. Plus it gives context to a lot of stuff. So the next time someone makes a post about how " (fill in the blank) is the greatest action movie ever or has the greatest chase scene ever or has the greatest ending ever" there will be context to it and you can understand why they're right or wrong based on your knowledge of film. It's cool to be prisoners of the moment but it's better to dig a little deeper and really know what you're talking about. Being able to bring that research to the table makes for better discussions

I can see both sides of the argument. I totally see from a film buff's view why you would watch it. But I can see how the material itself can be too offensive for some people. I remember watching this documentary when they said they brought this film to the white house at the time it came out. I forgot who the president was but he was quoted as saying the movie was great because it's true. I remember how heated I got and that was over a 100 years ago lol.

Most definitely. I understand both sides but I'm also not going to say don't watch it because it makes you angry. A lot of things I've watched made me angry and a lot of things I've read made me angry but I'm glad I experienced them
