Compression gear increases blood flow, reducing risk of injury, cramping and sweat wicking. Some keep you warm. I wore them for the increased blood flow and keeping me cool.
Now that you mention it, I had a nike shirt that was kind of compression fit. I would wear it to work on hot days and it kept me cooler than the traditional t shirt

I have always worn a white compression shirt under my clothes/tees since I was a kid. I started because it kept you cool as hell and you don’t feel the printed/ironed on design from the front of the tshirt sticking to your chest/back when you sweated back when we wore those kind of shirts. Just what I became used to. Now, I don’t feel right unless I got a compression shirt on under my clothes. Like leaving your watch at home.
