I never got a straight answer to this question

Some people say 5, others say 3 is fine. I have even been told that one is enough :wtf:

I normally do 3.

The thing is I want to bench press heavier weights but I usually struggle to do 3 reps. Therefore I limit the weight Im bench pressing to that from which I can do 3 reps.

What do you guys think?

I have always had a problem benching! I can never lift heavy on them.

I go for a weight to hit the 6-10 range. I rarely go over 10. It depends on your goals though!

I prefer dumbbell presses to bench.

How many reps do you do?

I thought it was heavier weight and less reps if you want to put on size
Nah you got it backwards. Low reps + high weight is for strength, that is how powerlifters train. High reps + low weight is for size. These are all relative, they should be heavy. High reps can be as low as 8.

I keep stalling short of body weight on bench press for reps. I'm stuck at where to go from here.

Yea I have been stalled on bench for years now. I have always had weak wrists and a motorcycle crash aggravated my left one. I had to stop doing DB presses because of that. But I am going to get wrist wraps today and see if that makes a difference.

Where are you stalling in the lift? You might need more accessory work on the lagging muscle.

I've been doing 3x5 and for some reason I can get past a few reps on the first set of that weight. I've dropped back twice and blasted through the 5 pound increment just below but when I get back to that number it's just not working.

I know you are doing 3x5 but maybe drop the weight and get more reps off, then come back to the goal weight in a couple of weeks. If you can do like 6-7 reps w/10# less you should be able to do 5 with the goal weight.

I always shoot for 6-10. I workout on my own and I won't touch anything I feel I can't do 10 reps with
