Basically this and a lack of discipline to keep following through on it when I started.

I'm in a good spot now because I have tip money coming in, so I save most of that, back then it was impossible to save when I was making $8 an hour and only working 12 hours.

But what blew my mind was that I've been working for this company for the last three years and they don't have a company backed retirement plan. I just signed up for a Roth IRA because I don't want to be having to work at the age of 75 like people I work with.

I also got my student loans, which weren't a lot in the first place, down to manageable payments like I did with my credit card, which wasn't a huge amount. Paid off the credit card last year.

Only one I kinda kick my self over is student loans. It seemed so normal at the time. I definitely should've tried to pay more out of pocket tho, or go to a community college and transfer.
I try to get this across to so many people.

Go to community college first (online preferrrably) and then transfer to a 4 year university. You save a WHOLE lot of money this way.

Considering going out of state? Most community colleges do not charge out of state tuition when taking online courses. I think people should experience the college dorming experience, but be reasonable and do not go crazy. In-State? Dorm for at least a year to get to know a whole lot of new people and build connections. Out of state? Live near campus to be around your peers as much as possible to build connections, but making sure that you have your own spot to and considered an in-state student if you decide to transfer to a university in the same state to take courses on campus. This can mean anywhere between 30-60K savings in terms of tuition/expenses in the course of 4-5 years.
