There's rumors Spielberg secretly directed Poltergeist. I think a crew member on it said he basically did. It feels a lot more like a Spielberg movie than a Tobe hooper movie.

Got a lot of classics obviously but Jaws is his best IMO.

Spielberg is always involved like that even in stuff he's not directing. He was even a camera operator for Rami Malek's audition for The Pacific doing some fly ass camera work.

Jaws

not showing the shark for like the hour or so was genius and just made for crazy tension. but like others have said, its too many classics to really just pick one.

Spielberg wrote and produced Poltergeist. Just like how he wrote the story for and produced The Goonies. We could say the Indiana Jones movies are George Lucas movies too cuz he wrote the stories and produced them.
You can definitely tell tho that Lucas did not direct the Indy movies. Well maybe the last one :russ:

The Indy movies are collabs between two friends. They both produce while Spielberg directs and Lucas writes. Also, Spielberg is still getting paid off of the Star Wars trade he did with Lucas all them years ago.

Nothing touches saving private Ryan. The cinematography was way ahead of its time. Plus we wouldn’t have call of duty without it.

Raiders for me because it's a perfect movie. It feels like it's the blueprint for every great action/adventure, sci fi, etc film that came after. Think about the things it does perfectly:

-action packed, Bond type intro
-brief yet impactful exposition scene, explaining the plot and stakes
-memorable introduction of side character
-multiple memorable villains AND nameless henchmen
-chase scene(s)
-"tables turn" scene where the good guy loses or is under extreme duress
-memorable ending "fight" (lol)
-memorable ending that leaves you wanting more

Star Wars, Terminator 2, Matrix, etc all follow the blueprint effectively. But I don't think any of them feel as brisk as Raiders. It blows by, no scene lasts too long.
