Nah, Tim is a celebrated Hip Hop producer. He isn't Dre status, but he's still considered an upper echelon Hip Hop producer. Tim was giving out hits to unknown artists and had people checking for and copping their albums for that one song (see Magoo, Petey Pablo, and Bubba). What tarnishes Timbaland's catalog, is he gave incredible beats to sub par artists, which is pretty much true of some other greats. The difference is he doesn't have Illmatic, Chronic, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx level material in his catalog. His sound is still associated with Hip Hop even when he branches off and does other genres, which is how he managed to legitimize JT as a solo artist, revamp and reconstruct Nelly Furtado's career etc.

There’s lots of “celebrated” rap producers. Just Blaze for example is a celebrated rap producer he’s just not a pantheon level just like timbaland isn’t.

If Tim died tomorrow night 90% of the records they would play in tribute would be RnB

Kanye had Tim to redo his drums. Rakim was out here talking about Timbaland producing for him. Jay had Timbaland to produce an entire album for him and has been one of his go to producers since the 90's. Nas once mentioned that getting a beat from Pete Rock in '94 was like getting a beat from Timbaland now. That's preety high praise for someone yoy are categorizing as more recognized for R&B than Hip Hop. I'm quite sure these would get played at tribute for Tim:

Big Pimpin
Dirt Off Your Shoulder
Work It
Get Ur Freak On
One In A Million
Are You That Somebody
Try Again
Pony
Cry Me A River
SexyBack
Promiscuous

You have 4 Hip Hop joints, 4 R&B joints, and 3 Pop joints.

that was also a different era. I doubt Pharrell and Tim had as many hits at one time than Mustard

Breh, Timbaland at one point had like 3-4 #1 songs in one year. The Neptunes had like 40% of the songs getting played on the radio. I mean in 2006 alone, Tim had:

Promiscuous
SexyBack
Say It Right
My Love

^^^ All #1 records

Then there was Nelly's "Maneater". 5 songs from 2006 alone.

You buggin.

The Neptunes were flat out inescapable from like 00 to 02. nikkas were dropping hits with any and everybody.

These motherfukkers dropped Lord Willin, that Justin Timberlake album, and a couple hits with Nore in basically the same summer.

These nikkas had us listening to PHILLY'S MOST WANTED, bruh. I respect Mustard, but homie isn't close to that level yet.
