I am always mystified when ppl use this term for what ledger did.You cant "steal the show" if you are basically given top billing and associated with the most memorable parts of the film :what:

He wasn't given top billing tho, barely anyone knew who ledger was before he passed. You ask anyone about TDK now and Heath is the first thing they mention that's what people mean when they say he stole the show.

ppl knew him as mr brokeback and I meant the joker. Its like saying danny devito stole the show as penguin in returns. When most of the plot revolved around dude u cant steal the limelight when its on u most of the time..Stealing the show is what val kilmer did in tombstone or pesci in casino, ledger in tdk? nah

I didn't think it would be possible, but from what I've read it's very much a reality...

and we should be able to bet coli cash on box office grosses. TDKR will def. do more than TDK.

You dont think ledger's last "major" picture gave TDK a certain cache that boosted its BO appeal? k :pachaha:

no, i said it wasn't a gimmick, none of the trailers promoted it as such. the box office success was a combination of the fact it was one of the BEST films of that year, the box office success of batman begins that got people ALREADY hyped for TDK, the overly positive critical reviews, AND the iconic premise that its batman vs. the joker. ledger's oscar winning performance and his untimely death were the icing of the cake....

to say it's the ONLY reason in which they used it as a gimmick is ridiculous, especially after the fact that NOLAN stated in an interview he won't even MENTION the joker in "TDKR" for that very reason. and don't front like TDKR isn't going to at LEAST match the previous film's weekend debut success.

For some reason I feel like Nolan had all three planned out perfectly before he even finished Batman Begins... I trust that he had it planned out and didn't even "go all out" with The Dark Knight, So that we have something to look forward to with the 3rd film, or something to be surprised by if you are a doubter...

Actually the joker was supposed to play a heavy role in part 3
