I think you're confusing Hip-Hop Soul with Contemporary R&B. I consider Hip-Hop Soul more of a sub-genre of Contemporary R&B."HipHop Soul" is R&B. It's the modern, non-neo soul sounding R&B you heard all through the 90's.

You sure about that? Some of the responses & comments that Beyonce has received from conservative politicians and parent groups the last couple years. Especially at the 2014 Grammys.Even then, both are light skinned blk women... light skin is more acceptable because in a white society, lighter is better than darker.....
@ the bolded i give u Rhianna but Beyonce?
Bey is no Whitney Houston... meaning, I personally believe, Beyonce is considered beautiful because, of her "racially ambiguous" features.
Rhianna is light but she has the "traditional african facial features" the facial structure. The Nostrelz... protruding forehead. The Lips....
I don't think it's a coincidence, since Rhianna has more african features, she has a sluttier image than Beyonce.
About 90% Yes .Can't you say that about most Pop artists?
damn he was talkin about rihanna
Beyonce isn't racially ambiguous? Okay.
If you didn't know Beyonce you would probably expect her to say she was black & something else.... that's the ambiguous part. She's creole after all, that's ambiguous by description.
Rihanna too to an extent with her green eyes./
Same thing with Nicki. She's more obviously from Trini. A lot of Trini's have Indian ancenstry which Nicki clearly has as well.
There isn't a extremely popular mainstream black female artist I can think of that looks like you're average African American in terms of skin tone and features. Thank God for Michelle Obama tbh.
why do yall keep equating darker skin with being the average looking AA? we come in all colors. beyonce looks like a light skin black chick, so does rihanna and nicki, nothing about them would make me say "are you mixed?" to them. the only reason she looks anything else is her long blonde wigs. swear yall kill me dismissing lighter blacks like they don't exist without strong connections (like being 1/4 other) to other ethnicities and racesBeyonce isn't racially ambiguous? Okay.

Number One, this how the industry, and even the world works.
#2 . I don't know why u brought up sells...
We're discussing aesthetics, and u bring up sells. Sticking to the topic of aesthetics.
Alcia keys is also considered very beautiful by the world. And She's also light skinned...
#3
If u look around, all the female rnb sangers have a certain look... and to a lesser extent, even the male rnb singers.
The original posts i responded to was
But neither of them really embody blk beauty. they have a racially ambiguous look, that execs are looking for...
Some of these women are more ambiguous than others, others, like Rhianna r less... i already talked about her , "traditional african features " and it's not a coincidence that her image has always been the sluttiest because of it.
Alicia Keys damaged her image by being a home wrecker, and by putting out shytty music. Rihanna has been consistent with her catchy music. Loud, you can listen to from beginning to end, and every song is great. Beyonce has been building her empire for years. Her stage presence is what carries her, otherwise lackluster, music.
That is not how the industry works. There's many women that are considered beautiful for varying reasons. Beyonce and Rihanna have topped white women in white magazines for being the most beautiful women in the world.
All female R&B singers do not have a certain look unless you only listen to a certain type of R&B. Jazmine Sullivan and Chrisette Michele look nothing alike. K. Michele and Tamar Braxton look nothing alike. Jerimih, Miguel, and Omarion look nothing alike.
Also: she's not white. Adele 3 million sold I LEGIT have not heard one single, have not seen a video, havent even heard other people playing it in they cars or anyone talk about
white privilege dont exist tho
Beyonce is actually mixed though. She's half Creole.why do yall keep equating darker skin with being the average looking AA? we come in all colors. beyonce looks like a light skin black chick, so does rihanna and nicki, nothing about them would make me say "are you mixed?" to them. the only reason she looks anything else is her long blonde wigs. swear yall kill me dismissing lighter blacks like they don't exist without strong connections (like being 1/4 other) to other ethnicities and races
chick looks like the average light skin girl in high school
She isn't. This is ambiguous
Beyonce has classic West African features.....nothing ambiguous about her
Nicki is even less ambiguous than beyonce and Rihanna
Historically? The most known "black" female artists/singers were never ambiguous outside of a hand full of people.
Beyonce is actually mixed though. She's half Creole.
I never mentioned skin tone. She's actually darker than a Keyshia Cole.
The average AA isn't light skinned.
From the 3 women I mentioned only 1 is African American and she has a Creole mother.
The first chick looks vast majority European. A Southern European country.. Spain, Portugal (thus South America) or Greek. She's not racially ambiguous aesthetically.
I'm West African - Beyonce doesn't look like your average West African woman. She wouldn't stick out massively but you wouldn't be surprised to see her mother looks like
Nicki Minaj isn't African American (heritage wise) and it's not a surprise.
How many West Africans have you met with green eyes bro?
How many black celebs can you name with green eyes?
You'd struggle to get to two hands. It's not typical of African Americans nor West Africans.
The woman below are unapologetically black. They could be Igbo or Asante or whatever. They don't have significant European mixture above the average AA or a lot West Africans.
