Atari basically quit the console market once the Playstation & Saturn released, completely outclassing the Atari Jaguar. Atari ended up being sold to Hasbro.

NEC PC-FX failed due to lack of 3D Capability, causing NEC to focus on personal computers
Samsung bought out 3DO's console division
SNK's Neo Geo was a commercial failure, and since arcades were beginning to die off during the late 90s, the company went bankrupt and was bought up by a pachinko company called "Azure" (now called Universal Entertainment) who offered to bail them out but ended up basically stripping the company for parts/IPs to use in pachinko machines. Azure shut down production of SNK's last console which was made prior to their bankruptcy, the Neo Geo Pocket despite the console making a decent profit and actually competing with nintendo's gameboy advance for the handheld market.
actually, Microsoft created the MSX (1983) & MSX2 (1985) which was a competitor to the Commodore 64, Famicom & ZX-SpectrumMicrosoft wasn’t even in the console making business yet![]()
