My thought process was simple.

I began working out prior to my 12th grade school.

I did exceptionally well in my chemistry class(120% / 100% every test, finished in 3-5 minutes) and grew fascinated with trying to understand all the ingredients that go into many fitness products.

I would always bring my chemistry teacher various products (protein bars, shakes, creatine) to dissect the information for me.

Funny thing is, he always had something negative say about every product....

I always thought being able to understand the biochemistry the occurs in the body through the consumption of food was pretty cool....

Honestly, I could care less about landing a job after college. I'll be straight. I just need the knowledge....

I was undecided for a while in college. Tried Chemistry, hated it. Both of my sisters have chemistry degrees, one found a good job, the other couldn't and decided to go back to school and get another degree. I chose finance because of the earning potential straight outta college. If I'm going through the bullshyt that is college, I want a good god damn job when I get out. There is nothing more in this world that would make me angry than to get out of college with a degree that couldn't get me a good job.

If my major didn't require a degree, I would have not even went to college. My school is over run with people who just wants to be workers and get a good job.

I chose Civil Engineer, because I was always interested in engineering and design. Also, I was so geeked when I found out after working under an engineer for 4 years I can get my professional engineer license and work for myself.

Most chemistry jobs are out of state, my sister who found a good job has to travel an hour just to get to work. College must've been easy as hell though when you're taking the same classes as a sibling. I always wished I had a brother or something to go through college with. I was really lost when it came to college for a while.

Trying to make up for lost time. :manny:

I was a bum coming out of HS. Too focused on athletics. Had an epiphany after breaking my leg freshman year: athletics ain't puttin food on the table, b. From 19-22yo I worked part time jobs and sparingly went part time to CC to "find myself." Maths, sciences, computers were always subjects I was most interested in. Found out about my CC's PTA program at 22yo. Two year program, come out makin good money, per diem jobs everywhere, patient care hours for furthering education opportunities. I hopped in.

Just grad and now I'm trynna figure out where I wanna go from here. :manny:

i remember i was undecided at first. i was thinking about going into my school's jazz program but the program was so new and still developing that it made little sense to become a jazz major (even though i still played and took courses within that field). but i chose african american studies based off of an experience i had in an african american studies class. there was this one teacher from california who was a lot different than the other teachers at the university. she was very "in-your-face" about everything and some of the material we read was great. it opened my eyes and piqued my interest in pursuing african american studies as a major. plus, i also realized my father's influence throughout my whole life. we would often discuss topics of that nature at home, like at least once a week he'd talk to me about stuff related to sociology, and more specifically the present day situation of african americans and blacks...

Couldn't see myself doing anything other than programming so, there ya go. Even though I get lazy in my studies, I still love the shyt. That it's lucrative and holds 5 spots on the top 10 jobs list is bonus.

What's your career plan?

i'm a musician, that's my career. i did some teaching at an african-american art gallery before and after i graduated for a couple of years but i hated the city i was living in and the organization i worked for was very disorganized. so, i made arrangements to move somewhere else where i could do my music full time. it would have been impossible to play where i use to live, there's barely a scene and even worse, the only jazz scene there is connected to the university i went to. i visited europe a couple of times after one of my german friends from undergrad encouraged me to come over and participate in a festival in his town (burghausen). i did enjoy it a lot but i knew it would have been highly difficult to just pick up and move there. but, right after i graduated from college, my girlfriend at the time brought us a trip to NOLA and it made more sense for me to move down here first before i went anywhere else. so a couple years after that trip, i moved and now here i am, playing and performing.

to be honest, i still might move to europe but not anytime soon. when i do move, it'll probably be in my mid to late 30's. and that's based on if i don't find anywhere else appealing after i visit it...

My plan was to go to law school, so since there's no one major that's recommended before going to law school, I went with political science since I've an interest in politics. Only when I was one class away from fulfilling the major requirements did I realize two things:

- I don't like writing long essays. Not that I'm bad at writing them, but I figured I'd be doing a lot more of it in law school and after graduation and it's not something I enjoy doing.
- More importantly, I found out about the glut of law school graduates, the lack of jobs to accommodate them, and the stupidly high levels of debt they go into :sadbron:

So I took an intro to programming class and now wish I chose computer science as my undergraduate major instead. It looks like I'll be going for an MA in computer science instead (and in the meantime, taking some of the undergraduate prerequisites I need to take). I'll still have to take out loans, but I figure it shouldn't be as expensive and it's in a field I'd like to get in to.

Stable career prospects, recognized as a leading field at my school, and it had the second highest starting salary out of all the other majors at my school :manny:

I am and always have been a computer nerd, so I started out majoring in Computer Science. After two semesters, I discovered that, while I didn't mind programming, Calculus was just not for me.

So, at my advisor's suggestion, I switched to IT.

That's pretty much it.

I've always loved how hands on science is and I can be pretty OCD, so lab work is my cup of tea. Ultimately, I want to go to dental school though because I like seeing the results of my work and the idea that I can improve someone's well being.

Also, we need more black female dentists. :ld:

If that plan fails(which I doubt it will), I wouldn't mind working in or supervising a lab for research purposes. :hamster:
