Dudes have months to prepare their verses? :mindblown:

Yeah they don't go off top clowning on the spot anymore. They also don't rap to a beat. :what:

This is the best example of why rhyming a bunch of words isn't that impressive and why I think it's funny that if someone rhymes every single sentence that makes them good (emenim) and if you wanna keep the rhymes simple but still have a good message or story or melody you suck. This is just slam poetry back and forth.

Lux still gave him that work though :whew:

I liked it, but this isn't really anything new. People who have been following battle rap extensively have seen examples similar to this*

*see Cortez vs Hollohan

or really Cortez vs anyone.

lol I see a lot of HL hasn't checked out battle raps in awhile too

yeah they've been been written....I realized that back during the jae millz vs murda mook joint

Nowadays freestyles mean 2 things: either there's no beat or there is structure/purpose behind the song (i.e just flowing to flow)

yet another example highlighting the death of him hop. oh "prepare for months" and "research" halving ass fake as rappers...er...um...street poets.

i'd rather have someone stutter as they try to think of something that come with something written. TO ME, the illest MC's can put that stuff together right on the spot using shyt in the IMMEDIATE AREA and use it. I still like written shyt but a freestyle battle/ of the top is where real skill is. It also helps separate the shty that's forced on you (i.e. refined by the marketing department to ensure you used n/igger and "gat" the appropriate number of times) vs that shyt that's from the soul.

i digress.

It wasn't always that way, though. Plus "conscious" rappers battle all the time, too, and Lux was always known for avoiding the thug image in his verses. Battle rap might be full of it, but it's not intrinsic to it at all, so I don't see how this is cheating. It's left-field, maybe, but not unheard of or against any official or unofficial rules.

I didn't mean to suggest it's unsportsmanlike, I meant it kinda breaks the frame and pulls out the win that way. I'll take your word for it that conscious battling has been in that push-pull though. I mean, I've seen a bunch of battles in which one guy is saying he'll ejaculate all over the other guy's gf, I've never heard the other guy get all offended about it and deconstruct the macho aggression  they mostly just ignore it and do their unconnected response. Although in on-record beef Nas going "you only seem concerned with dissing women" kinda goes into that territory

The worst part is, the written lines are garbage....

Heck give me a few months to "prepare" a battle rap verse against an opponent and I'll be attacking them from another constellation. Speaking in intrinsic formalities that an ignorant buffoon couldn't google if their life depended on it.

This is hiphop

:whew: This takes talent.....

good shyt
and yup. it takes skill to do that shyt. that's why i like a lot of the west coast "non gangster" shyt (heiro, del, souls of mischief) and shyt like this.

Basically if you can't relate to this:

or this:

Then you'll never be able to appreciate what hip hop was and could have become. (basically the 2nd verse at 1:30 highlights the whole got damn argument)

Really sad when you think about it. :manny:

Was he spitting pre-written lyrics? It didn't even seem on the fly or catered to his opponent.

I'm glad I was alive when Supernatural destroyed Craig g. At least I was able to witness real battle rapping in my lifetime.

Hollow da Don, okwerdz and Real Deal are pretty cool. At least they can spit rhymes off-top and it's not always about "I got a tech with an AK that can spray" crap.

It seemed like you had to have a very sharp mind to battlerap. Standards are so low now so who knows about today's MCs

He gon get this WORK!!!!! LOLOLOL

Now I see where that gif comes from. Good stuff but yeah this is'nt traditional hip hop in the sense that these shyts are hella written and prepared.

People always try to shyt on Em but a lot of his shyt in the battle scene was straight off the top. I would bet anything if you tossed him in with these cats in 2012 with no room to prep they'd be roasted early. But then again rappers like Em are from a different time.
