That's assuming Shawn would have even stuck around. With the inevitable rise of SCSA, and Rock on his way, I really think we might have seen Shawn jump to WCW, no joke. Not sure what his contract situation was at that particular time though.

Should he have stayed, him and Rock would have come to legit blows, believe that.

Looking back, HBK retiring for that brief period of time was the best thing that could have happened to him.

If he would have stuck around for the Attitude Era he probably would have retired earlier than he did due to all the wear and tear on his body - the time off also allowed him to reevaluate his life, get married, and become a born-again Christian.

You can also make the argument that when he came back he had better psychology in his matches than he did before.

he needed to be gone for the WWF to truly become great. he was too much of a cncer, shyt even HHH ratted him out to Vince during one of his comebacks. plus he need to get his fukking life together. at the earliest he should have come back the night after Wrestlemania 17 and either aligned with HHH and Vince OR saved Rock after the beat down from Austin, Vince, and HHH since Rock was leaving for 4 months.

Ratings are always indicative of the overall product and not because of one superstar. You put the Rock in his absolute prime into today's era, with the scripting and the way they run the show, and it would be the same ratings wise. Who would his opponents be? How would they be scripted? Not everyone would have free reign, and certain things would not be allowed to be said.

The Rock was and is amazing, the reason the ratings for his returns are so high is because people are itching for the feel of that era, and when you end up watching it....you see that it's filtered....and just doesn't seem the same, because the rest of the show is completely scripted.

The Attitude Era would have been equally as good with HBK still in it.

Triple H would NOT have ascended like he did. He spent a good 75% of his career either in Shawns shadow or trying to escape it. Shawn would have most likely gone on to be one of the most reviled wrestlers in history. A true villian in front of and behind the camera, also he might have died. Rock and Austin would have happened anyway but the interactions between them would've been awesome. What I believe the greatest impact of this what-if scenario is the era of the samll wrestler would have come a lot sooner, just based off his clout and standing in the company at the time. Having a smaller guy as awesome in-ring as HBK would have given the Jerichos,Guerreros and Benoit types a leg up.

Two Answers:

I. Assuming HBK continued to be the locker room cancer, he wouldn't have been able to cope with Stone Cold being at the top and eventually he'd lose to Stone Cold in the politic game and leave.

II. Assuming HBK realized its Stone Colds turn and he can be a great rival to him and later The Rock, he would have continued as the leader of DX, then in a power struggle with HHH, DX turns on him. HBK turns face and feuds with HHH and DX.

That's another thing, can't believe I didn't state it. Can you imagine the CLASSICS that a prime HBK would have put on with Guerrero, Jericho, Benoit, Angle etc? Considering HBK has put on classics with less than stellar wrestlers.........shyt would have been mind blowing.

IDK why people say it was the best for the wwf that Shawn left that's false. It was best for Shawn to leave to get his life together. After Wrestlemania 14 HBK would've most likely turned face and feuded with HHH. HHH would've came down and said when a group suffers a loss u get stronger by adding a piece (Xpac) and then getting rid of the weakest link then pedigreed HBK. Then They would have feuded for a couple of months. But the Attitude Era would have been even BETTER then it was if HBK was still around in his prime. Can you imagine HBK vs Austin vs The Rock Triple threat? HBK vs The Rock? HBK and HHH vs The Rock and Austin? I could go on and on we missed out on a lot of classics.

Good post but to be honest Jericho,Guerrero, and benoit might not have even made it. THey would have been held back tbh
