im curious because I use fl and reason together , but recently have been considering switching over to reason completely since fl has its limits.

I have to disagree with you , fl studio is limitless since you can add third party vst and anything you want to it , even run reason inside fl studio as a plugin .
Most of the big cats use fl studio over reason now but still reason is good just lacking a bit in the soud section , you have to add reason refiles and shyt and cant run vst in it . In the end its a matter of taste so just use what ever work for you but to me fl studio is the big deal . Not taking down reason its also a really good daw and many big hits have been made with it and some big name still use it as well.

I started with Reason and I got to say it really helped me putting a real track together and playing the keys. The thing is with FL you can make a beat in like 5 minutes just by clicking (that's not what I do and I thank Reason for that)...
As time went by I switched to FL.
The reason was cause I was really tired of using those synths and the refills in Reason (very limited). But now I really started to figure out FL and it's phuckin powerful man. That's all I use. I still cut samples with Recycle but I use them in FL.

I only know the Roland MV-8800 and FL Studio.
I switched to FL Studio cause its at least 3 times faster to do the same things.
And the MV could only use 1 FX at once and a delay and chorus which is far too limitid for me.

I used every program I possibly could in the last 8 years. I've been using Fl Studio since it was called Fruity loops 3. When FL first came out it was nothing but a Drum Machine. so I've seen the program grow exponentially. At the end of the day a program's a program it's all about what you like to use better.

this is a age old debate, a lot of people who arent as into the craft or are starting out think fl studio is beginner shyt, its just simplified which makes it much easier to make music on. The other ones are multipurpose fl as far as ive seen caters the most to simple beat making by far. Ill admit it does suck for mixing though.

plus it has amazing features/plugins. As someone who used ableton then came back fl is much easier to use for hip hop. If your into making more songy type stuff the others are great but fl is designed for that basement level beat shyt which is the sound of hip hop, not the crisper edm focused daws

yeah, my sound-design teacher said he misses FL to since he went to a Mac computer.
Hope the new Mac version FL is gonna work just as good as the PC version.

Curious to know what limitations you experience with FL? It's like 10x more versatile than Reason.

I still prefer Reason because it forces you to understand production more.

The way they set-up the daw in reason just connects with me. Feels more hands on, like your connecting hardware instead of routing to plugins.

Then there's the lack of vst, so you have to learn how to use and combine thor. Then there's no drag and drop so you cant just swap out drums, you have to know what you want to use. Then for the longest time there was no spectrum EQ and so on and so on. Basically I had to work harder which made me learn more.

i use fl to make beats but i'll usually use pro tools to mix them. i like the edit window better and the workflow for mixing is superior to me...creating different types of tracks, the routing, etc. it's just way easier to set up in pt.
