Missionary was a huge disappointment.
I really enjoyed Compton on release. It had some great tracks but i have to admit that I would struggle to listen all the way through today. There’s something off about it as a cohesive project.
For me, personally, I’d like to see him ditch any large production staff and just make beats hands-on. We know he can do it as he did so in the NWA days and (possibly to a lesser extent as it was more collaborative) the Death Row days. Or at least he could go back to using Focus and them. I’m not saying he can repeat any of that, just move into the correct lane again.
I think he needs to be humble and understand that he‘s only great when he plays to his strengths. I wonder if he realises this now.
What I THINK he’ll do. Double down and do what Jimmy tells him to do. Not sure exactly what that entails though.
Or he tries to go for a bigger RnB sound while doing smaller projects that he wants to do for himself.
What‘s your take?
