only way to beat it is to not pause for long between what you're saying. Then say something to insult the crowd and make them boo. Then go back to talking again.

Most wrestling fans who chant mindlessly can be easily distracted.

It's annoying but it also has exposed the cut and paste WWE promo style. Waaaaaaaaaay too many pauses.

It kind of sucks, but I don't see the reason to get to up in arms about it.

Honestly, if you can't handle getting "What"ed, you can't be considered a good promo guy in any sense. It's going to happen, and it's not changing any time soon, like "wooo"ing after a guy gets chopped. Wrestlers (I saw a Mick Foley tweet bytching about this. A MICK FOLEY TWEET for fukk's sake) need to stop bytching about it and learn to deal with it. Case in point, the above Undertaker promo.

True, but we're talking about the viewers' point of view here. Until the wrestlers learn to deal with it, we, as viewers, are stuck listening to it. And most wrestlers don't make the effort.

I'd like to think the idiot "fans" who chant "What" would realize that it sucks for people actually trying to listen to the promo.

Of course they wouldn't realize it; a "WHAT" chant is the most self-interested chant in wrestling (aside from something like "WE ARE AWESOME," which is a chant that I actually really hate).

I guess it just doesn't get under my skin like it does other. I just accept that bored crowds are going to do this, it's really a part of the cultural make up of wrestling and wrestling fandom. That's why I'm focusing more on the wrestler's ability to improvise and punish a crowd for trying to kill their promo like that (and, by proxy, Stephanie's idiotic scripting of promos and the general WWE promo style, which necessitates the pauses that gives the chants their life) than the crowd themselves. It's been proven that they won't "WHAT" guys if you don't give them a chance or reason to. Thus, there's no reason to cry about it ruining everything. It's not that important in my eyes; at worst, it's indicative of other problems in wrestling that need to be fixed.

(And, honestly, it comes too close to the extremely stupid anti-smark smark observation that the crowd "isn't acting properly in regard to the storyline and heel/face alignment" that I see on other boards. fukk that sentiment more than anything else)

But that's just me. :manny:

the What chant is there.

what chants disappear when wrestlers stop using gaps in their promos as punctuation and emphasis.

It's hard to "what" a punk promo for instance

(what)

because he doesnt talk

(what)

like this....

(what)

during promos!

(what)

Pausing after every 4th second!

(what)

Taking deep breaths!!!!

(what)

Looking around!

(what)

watching for crowd reaction!

(what)

talking like a baptist preacher!

I say this too. Wrestlers gotta stop pausing during their promos when they getting what chants. Fans won't have a chance to say it if they're talking uninterrupted. And you don't even have to talk fast to accomplish this.

You can see that it bothers some wrestlers when they are doing their promos but most seasoned vets know how to work around it and still deliver a good promo.

WWE fans are some fukking lames..........you don't say :mjpls:

I see both sides of the coin, but you gotta know how to counter that by now, and they don't, which is :mindblown:

It's self serving mindless annoying and idiotic, yep. However, if you treat it like a circus show, so will the fans.

it was funny initially when Austin played off of it, but it's run its course, but i do agree that wrestlers need to stop pausing so much cuz it eggs it on.
