True, but we're talking about the viewers' point of view here. Until the wrestlers learn to deal with it, we, as viewers, are stuck listening to it. And most wrestlers don't make the effort.
I'd like to think the idiot "fans" who chant "What" would realize that it sucks for people actually trying to listen to the promo.
Of course they wouldn't realize it; a "WHAT" chant is the most self-interested chant in wrestling (aside from something like "WE ARE AWESOME," which is a chant that I actually really hate).
I guess it just doesn't get under my skin like it does other. I just accept that bored crowds are going to do this, it's really a part of the cultural make up of wrestling and wrestling fandom. That's why I'm focusing more on the wrestler's ability to improvise and punish a crowd for trying to kill their promo like that (and, by proxy, Stephanie's idiotic scripting of promos and the general WWE promo style, which necessitates the pauses that gives the chants their life) than the crowd themselves. It's been proven that they won't "WHAT" guys if you don't give them a chance or reason to. Thus, there's no reason to cry about it ruining everything. It's not that important in my eyes; at worst, it's indicative of other problems in wrestling that need to be fixed.
(And, honestly, it comes too close to the extremely stupid anti-smark smark observation that the crowd "isn't acting properly in regard to the storyline and heel/face alignment" that I see on other boards. fukk that sentiment more than anything else)
But that's just me.
