His beats won't soft but rather laid back sometimes.

Yeah, his chords and melodies are soft and laidback though but they are beautiful. Soft melodies go really well with hard hitting drums cause they form a nice contrast.
Dilla probably had the best drums of all of them. I wonder where he got all those great drums from. I think he recorded live drumsets and just saved them as samples to his MPC floppys.
I have claps like he does though those aren't hard to find. They where being made by a lot of companies like modernbeats back in the days although modernbeats came after Dilla.
But those Snares where so damn great.
Yeah, i think he's the goat. Some of his beats sounded like sampled beats while they basically where Rhodes notes being sequenced inside his MPC.
I always thought the Rhodes piano on the Intro of Fantastic Vol. 2 was a sample but he made those chords himself. Dude knew music.
