What are key indicators that you in the hood of a city?

I was thinking about this and taking to my brother about how you know you in the hood of any city. Some things I came up with:

1) Any street named MLK Blvd., Dr., Rd, St. usually ain’t a good sign honestly

2) You’re usually not near the prime attractions or prime real estate of a city

3) The area contains a bunch of streets packed together that are named as numbers I.E ( 4th street, 15th ave, etc.)

4) Strangely you are usually closer to the airport in that city, assuming that the more upscale areas/neighborhoods don’t want to hear planes taking off and landing all day

5) Usually a highway runs thru it/separates it from other parts of the area


Y’all got any others to add?

An ungodly amount of pot holes;

nikkas standing in front of the convenience not doing anything, lookin left and right all the fcking time

liquor store, convenience store, barber shop, check cashing all on one area, and its NOT the downtown area of the city

metal bars in house windows, metal bar at the gas station window lol

Anywhere where decent sized groups of men are congregating in the middle of a weekday.

Chicken shacks and liquor stores are literally next to each other.

Them death trap Detroit Fried Chicken type joints open at 12am

Tire marks at the 4 way stop

Don't forget a bunch of churches.

Just to add:

Convenience stores owned by Middle Eastern people

Raggedy pavement

Abandoned homes/lots

Drunks hanging at the gas station

Groups of stray dogs with the jump rope titties roaming the block

Family Dollars and Piggly Wigglys, stores that sell loose cigarettes

Bad traffic on Saturdays because everybody wants to have their funerals on saturdays, and it might be 7-10 major churches in that one vicinity

Fat white women with mismatched socks and crocs/slides with 15 cheap ass tattoos working at McDonalds and sounding more hood than the black women they try to emulate

An over abundance of power lines (or just bad infrastructure in general). Potholes, poor drainage, lack of sidewalks, more apt to have broken items at playgrounds, if the playgrounds still exist.

Chinese food spot/barbershop/pool hall all in the same shopping center

Local chicken spots, not national chains. Some examples include Ms.winners, Harts, Kennedy Fried Chicken, Harold’s, JJ Fish and Chicken,etc

strays... cats or dogs.. until they get to the asians spots... u wont see benji odie or garfield...

bus stops

gas stations that's not shell exxon chevron

super food marts or any variant of it

When the gas station store is named ” Supreme FoodMart” or some shyt

Anybody from Vegas knows their is at least 3 Dotty's casinos in every hood part of Vegas just like 7-11

And ice cream trucks or the Mexican dude on the bike selling them corns

No trees lining the sidewalks

Teens in bonnets walking back to the house with takeout

Bars on most if not all the shops
Convenience Store with no actual windows, instead just murals covering where the windows should be
Shops that have been out of business for decades
Barber Shop that you don't know anyone who gets their line up at
Chicken spot that used to be like a Church's but even they had to take their name off it
Auto Repair places that are hella specific - we ONLY work on transmissions
Laundromat that may or may not actually be open depending on the time of day


What I also enjoy is that when your City is large enough there are different pockets with different esthetics but the same core environment though Chicken spot might become a mexican or asian spot.
