Thats with the goofy voices, random accents, whitewashing and all.
Todays dubs are more accurate and culturally respectful because the old ones were trying to Americanize the dialogue and cultural references. But they all seem to be dubbed by the same 6 dudes. They're all average to bad though.
The old days would have plenty of horrfic dubs like One Piece and Pokemon but on the other end there are amazing ones like Cowboy Bebop, FMA or GTO. No more unique american gems like the Pokerap or the DBZ Falconer soundtrack
I watch too much anime so I got to the point where I’d hear someone and recognize like all the people they’ve voiced and it got annoying. And they aren’t even good VAs
Subs just seem to have more emotion in it and it’s like they take it more serious. Some of the English voices don’t fit characters as good as the Japanese versions either
The only good thing we got that they don’t is the Pokémon theme song

Yeah, I knew a lot of people a few years back on another forum that were the same way. I used to bag on 'em but they said they couldn't enjoy the show as much while trying to keep up with the subs.
I finished watching dusk maiden of amnesia. Its not perfect but I did enjoy it.
The audio is on point. Hearing a song from the soundtrack is what drew me to watch it in the first place. Only drawback is the key songs only play a few times during the series so you arent hearing much but filler music most of the time. When the key tracks hit though its
The visuals are what surprised me the most. I went in expecting a horror/supernatural show and thought it would look like others in that genre. My main frame of reference was happy sugar life which is very boring visually. A lot of shows in this genre tend to play it straight by keeping the designs simple as possible, and make everything dark as fukk to add to the spookyness. Amesia's designs are pretty simple and its promo is the same dark art as expected, but the show itself is colorful as fukk at times. The visuals in this show can be lowkey crack. The shows main artstyle makes everything look like a painting. I'll bite consumed and post some examples (although i didnt rip these myself)
Theres portions where the art style changes up reminding me of utena lowkey
When they are telling history it looks like the ps2 game okami
The way the scenes are framed to make the story come together is well done too.
The concept of the story is a good one. There's a paranormal activity club to investigate if there is a ghost at the school. The main character and the ghost herself started the club and they use the club to learn about the ghost's story and deal with any other paranormal activity.
The main issue I have with this show is it felt a lot of the shows mishaps happened purely from them trying to milk it. The show is only 12-13 episodes too
One thing the show does is have ecchi scenes. At first it made sense in what was happening in context. After a certain point the show, they have to get serious and tell the main history. Even still it felt like there needed to be 1 minute of ecchi per episode like there was some quota. The characters put on more layers every episode too.
Story wise, 12-13 episodes seemed like more time than they knew what to do with. At certain points later on the characters were acting out of character, random details that were added that add nothing of story significance
like the main character being a decendant of the catalyst of the ghosts incident. The main character was born like 50 years after the ghost girl died and doesn't even know his ancestor so what difference does this detail make? They also had the ghosts sister as the schools principal which also made no difference considering she never did anything as principal.
even the ending which is done really well, had
them undue the ending after the credits to potentially milk the show longer
. They basically jumped the shark at some moments.
If they made this without my issue with the show, I would rate it really high

Word. Im not gnna lie..there were some atrocious dubs back then.... but there were also a lot of really good ones...... too good to the point they got creative and switched up the entire opening song and dialogues with style. lol english voice actors back then had a lot of time on their hands back.
old dubs were like fuk them japanese names, we gon call our character Marcus Damon, Davis, Cody, Gary oak instead of Masaharu, Daisuke,Iori, Shigeru Ōkido.
Then in the later years...they got the same ol 5 voice actors on rotation.
