Sony nears acquisition of US anime streaming service Crunchyroll

Looks like Sony going to get Crunchyroll. I'm expecting them to probably merge it with Funimation and have one central service for anime, but the price will definitely will increase with them having all that content and having an monopoly. And when you think about it, that means their competitors is now Amazon, Hulu (Disney) & Netflix. I would say Sentai, but ain't no way in hell they can compete with a juggernaut like Sony, unless they have the money to get Viz Media and even then, they're still no competition.
as long as studios benefit its good :yeshrug:

True, but from what I've seen earlier today about the news, people were more concern about censorship, than a price increase or monopoly. It goes to that the anime community is like the video game community, where there's bigger things to be concern about, but they focus on other things people won't even notice.

yeah, a lot of people don't like Sony's censorship policies. I tend to think that's an overreaction though given the degeneracy that already exists on Funimation.

real concern is for you guys that pay for streaming. Having a near monopoly on that probably won't make them eager to improve the service quality.

nothing changes for those who support anime through BD purchases, merchandise, pirate all else b/c they have more control over the quality. something I do.

I can already tell Kings Raid and I stand on top of 1mil lives are gonna be the disappointments of the season for me. West Gate Park headed in that direction too if it doesn't pick up next week.

Akudama Drive, Jujusu, and Noblesse are like on different levels from them shows.

if streaming quality and access was even below average then anime wouldn't be horded over download sites and torrents over the past 20 years :childplease: a legit platform makes everyone money and gets everyone a better product and process

the streaming service isn't below average. More so talking about complaints of players not working as they should, buffering, server and app issues, intentionally reducing file sizes at the sacrifice of video quality. They will make more money. But not sure that'll result in improved streaming quality when they have no real competition.

I do wonder if japanese studios will make more money when Sony is more or less competing against themselves for licensing.
