The one thing I'll ALWAYS give Japan/Anime props for is showing us that there isn't always a happy ending.

Or sometimes, any happiness at all.

Life gone life.
only times i've legit hated endings like that:

Wolf's Rain

Devilman Crybaby

not because they weren't happy or anything but because those were written to go out of their way to shyt on the viewer.

Yeah, sometimes they try too hard.

When it's done right, though, it resonates.

It's why I love CLAMP's X/1999 so much.

They legit told you there couldn't be a happy ending. The story wouldn't allow it. But human nature makes you hope against such stuff

Then they crush you and bring you back to reality. :mjcry:

don't get me started on that shyt again:mjlol:

and it's been decades but I actually get heated seeing anyone rep wolf's rain :mjlol:

It wasn't elegantly done or in line with the plot progression, it was a blatant slap in the face. The last thing you want your finale to be is tacky and that's what it was.

I was more speaking in line of the Earth being the devil's domain.
