Logic Is Absent Wherever Hate Is Present
Any of y'all watch Steph's show on Facebook watch? It's dope
At 31, Leandro Barbosa was the oldest player on the roster when he joined the Golden State Warriors before the start of the 2014-15 season. His teammates were so young, they might as well have practiced at recess. Stephen Curry was just beginning to edge toward global stardom, and the Warriors had not won an N.B.A. championship since 1975. Nobody was using the word “dynasty.”
“We were underdogs,” Barbosa said. “No one believed that we could go so far.”
The Warriors had signed Barbosa, a guard known as the Brazilian Blur, in large part for his experience, and he found himself surrounded by willing learners. He recalled how Curry and Klay Thompson were always peppering him with questions.
“They would just nod their heads and say ‘Thank you,’” Barbosa said recently in a telephone interview. “It’s kind of funny to think how big they are now.”
Barbosa was there for the start of what has been an exhilarating five-year ride for the Warriors and their fans, and a soul-crushing stretch for pretty much everyone else. Curry and Thompson — the Splash Brothers — were plenty good even then. But few could have anticipated all the records their Warriors would smash, and all the rings they would chase.
Golden State is now making its fifth straight appearance in the N.B.A. finals, facing the Toronto Raptors for a shot at a fourth championship in that span.
Barbosa left the Warriors in 2016 after two seasons that included the first title in the run, but he still feels a deep connection to the franchise — and to the sorcery that his former teammates continue to conjure. He is not alone.
Dope
“A lot has been talked about the move,” Curry said. “This is a small opportunity for me and [Under Armour] to highlight those influential people in my life who have taught me about the city and what it means to be from there, have pride and celebrate the history we had here.
“Coming from Charlotte, Oakland couldn’t be more different,” said Curry. “The people that I met along the way are important to me, my wife and my kids in terms of a sense of pride in terms of an underdog mentality. It’s been real throughout the whole process. They know I play for the Warriors and I represent them. But when they talk to me, they share their view and celebrate what we do. It’s always for ‘The Town,’ for Oakland. The sense of community is pretty amazing. I don’t know that you can get that in most places. We’ve spent 10 years here, and my wife and I have been embraced from [the beginning]. We’re extremely grateful for that.
“Oakland is our focus and our priority, even if we end up across the bridge.”
thank you!!
i'm so damn tired of the doom and gloom
every series outside of Portland people have been counting this team out, and it's stupid disrespectful.
I have the Athletic and 2/3 of the Warriors beat guys are picking the Raptors. it's bad enough that literally EVERYBODY in the media wants them to lose, there's a palpable sense that they really want this team to tuck their tail, go off in a corner, and die.
shyt is appalling fam.
I listen to NBA podcasts all day at work and the game by game overreactions, particularly if the Warriors lose, contain a lot of asinine takes.
I know homerism in sports is bad, especially in journalism is bad, but cotdamn. how do NONE of these dudes who have been covering and watching the team all these years have any faith in them whatsoever.
the Raps win was an aberration, facilitated by Looney and Klay not being available.
I'm tired of the hot takes, because in the end when the Dubs come back and win this the refrain is gonna return to "KD is a bytch" or how "the Warriors ruined basketball"
People weren't saying that shyt during the Bulls run, and as much hate as Bron got for the decision, the media and casual fans in general reveled in what they thought was the inevitability of him succeeding, despite him losing a lot more than he has won.
but it's like Draymond said. for whatever reason people hate you when you're at the top. and the hate is so palpable you can cut it with a butter knife
it's like that 50 Cent song, "many men, wish death upon me"
Dubs in 6, Steph gets his FMVP, and ascends back UP to near the top in best player in the league conversation
KD helps them secure the series win, feels appreciated and is motivated to stay
Lacob brings the band all back together and puts his money where his mouth is when he says "nobody will outspend us" and shores up our role player corps
worst case scenario if we lose, that serves as extra motivation for next year and the Dubs continue to win chips at a decent clip a la the Spurs, expecting it every year just *might* be asking too much. lol
we got it this year tho, I'd bet the house
I'd bet my whip we get it done in 6
super big shoutout to all the Dubs fam who keep it positive like a proton
I had ESPN plus for a bit and it's lowkey not worth the money, unless you watch a lot of fightsAnybody have Kobe Bryant Detail: Draymond Green version?
Win lose or draw, these have been the best 5 years of my life as a bay area soorts fan period. I'm not even sure how to feel rn.
