From the perspective that we're just another manifestation of biology on the planet Earth then the statistics are in favour of our extinction.

From the perspective that we're a spacefaring lifeform who can manipulate subatomic particles (etc.) then the applicability of statistics becomes less clear, because there's a sample size of zero (besides ourselves, that we know of) of those lifeforms.

Our descendants could be exctinct within a thousand years or they continue advancing technologically for many billions of years and eventually create a new universe to inhabit when this one dies. Who the fukk can say?
