I understand the point behind eliminating conferences.
In something like soccer, there are no conferences in the Premier League for example. It's just a seeding system based on points.

Is that a better system? Probably.
But I think rationalizing it by saying "the Eastern Conference is bad" is a bit foolish since these things tend to ebb and flow over time.

Tired of this “east is trash talk”. This start of the season is just a bad start with multiple injuries in the East.

2023-24- 8 of the top 16 teams from the East
2022-23- 8 of the top 16 were from the East
2021-22- 9 of the top 16 teams were from the East
2020-21- shortened season. Only 7 from the East

Maybe if they stopped rigging the lottery so players like Zion and Wemby don't end up in the Western Conference, we wouldn't have these issues.
Western Conference teams over the past decade + have benefited heavily from the draft lottery.

I’m glad you said it….. some lottery’s did feel rigged with certain players strategically being put on Wests. Hornets got robbed a few times of that #1 seed as they desperately needed it

But the eastern conference is infact "bad".

Spurs are 8 - 8. They not even in the play in games in the west

If they were in the east....they'd be the 5th seed and one game out of being the 4th seed.

12 teams in the west are 500 or better....

4 teams in the east are 500 or better...

I don't think we will ever see a point where the western conference legit only has 4 teams with a winning record almost 20 games into the season.

But the East has been mostly bad since the early 00’s. The West was trash in the 80’s but it’s been good for the most part since then.

When is going to ebb and flow?

No one can say.

But here's a little history about the MLB all Star game to put things in perspective:

Ninety-three All-Star Games have been played (including two games per year from 1959–1962), with the AL leading 47-44–2. The All-Star Game has seen several "eras" in which one league tended to dominate. From 1933 to 1949, the American League won 12 of the first 16. The National League dominated from 1950 to 1987, going 33–8–1. This included a stretch from 1963 to 1982 when it won 19 of 20, including 11 in a row from 1972 to 1982. Since 1988, the American League has dominated, going 27–7–1, including a 13-game unbeaten streak (12–0–1) from 1997 to 2009.

Any team, any "conference" can go on long runs of dominance or ineptitude.

lol hornets magically gifted #1 picks right after losing key players. Also the cavs getting 3 #1 picks was absurd. And Wemby ends up on the one team that had a French legend.
