AAs need to be part of these type of things on the continent, this is one of many. We keep talking about AAs are still getting shafted in the U.S. economically, well we need to keep our eyes on things happening on the continent.

Shame on yall, call another meeting breh ..... this some bullshiit.

:russ: I know I'm sounding like a Pan-Africanist coach, but I'm sincere. :sas2:

Its great yall talked candidly as a different groups of the Diaspora about social/cultural issues :salute:, but how to develop Africa (and what can AAs do to be part of that) is crucial and valuable in these kinds of discussions.

do you remember what they were arguing about?
Not really, the Africans thought the African Americans were "lazy" and the African Americans thought the Africans were "stuck up". By the end, things calmed down but plenty of time was wasted which could of been used for better conversation.

I've heard AA say "Africans don't like black people" I was like :what:
And I heard Africans say "AA are not their people" :wtf:

Lol this is the kind of nonsense that went on thru out the night for some reason. IDK, probably just went on an off night

But you know :patrice: :lupe: ,...

But you know what, I intentionally search and have an interest in African development. To be fair, there are probably many Africans that aren't even aware of the wide spectrum of urban related development being proposed or constructed, much less AAs. So its not fair of me to sound all uppity :francis: about an African/African American conference not really focusing on African development...........cause to be frank, the average person doesn't really pay attention to these types of things.

So this is where education comes into play, there needs to be people out there, basically marketing and showcasing the development occurring in Africa, which may help spark interests and then more tangible movements to trying to do business there by AAs......for me I just go to http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=372, grab some popcorn and get an idea of type of things being planned on the continent.

Good thread. If both sides learn more about each other and interact more with each other, a lot of the misunderstandings would go away.

Notice that neither side knew much about the others history initially and that their perceptions of each other was based on media. Very important.

I was talking with this white guy the other day, and he told me he was in the air conditioning business here in Houston. I asked do some people get to travel internationally to sell units and he said yes, and whether it was b/se I was black or I was asking good questions, he said something like Africa is on the radar. So that is just an example of the fact that OTHERS are absolutely eyeing the continent, and once again AAs going be left in the dust if they don't hop on this train....of all places. :mjcry:

you african? were your experiences similar to theirs at all?

I'm African, born in America but I've lived in England for most of my life. I don't really have much experience in regard to interactions with African Americans. I have African American family (half-sister and cousins) I speak to over the phone for birthdays and ect. but that's about it.

Glad to hear one of these talks actually went well. Been to one years ago and it ended with me going off on this black chick. I'm a first generation immigrant of Nigerian parents, so I understand both perspectives. But this was years ago before people had warm and fuzzy feelings about Africa, and I heard everything under the sun, on how Africans are arrogant, rude, stank, etc. , I vowed to never attend one of these ever again
