This is what has me so crazy about Kash Patel. Everyone has jumped right to the merits of Patel and no one has even paused to say, “Presidents don’t get to fire the FBI director without paying a huge political price.”

There seems to be a vast under-appreciation for the lines we’ve crossed and the world we’re in.
Trump’s win has basically put us in a post-rules world.
People in power don’t feel constrained by rules and any remaining checks don’t feel empowered to be checks.
This reality has not set in yet.

Because there is no political price. How many times have we heard this about Trump? He's President again, after two impeachments, a 34-felony count conviction, a truckload of other indictments, and his defamation losses. He pays no price. How will this be any different?

He should shoot someone on 5th Avenue just to prove he can

@Doug Smith @genejockey57.bsky.social
Do they, though? Trump fired Comey during the last go-round, and I don't recall much if any price.
Oh, of course, Susan Collins was concerned.

I wonder if there will ever be anything that The Convicted Felon and Adjudicated Rapist does to convince Susan Collins that he does not learn lessons.

Dems will bring “norms and guardrails” to a gun fight. As usual. Think it is time to reread Bakunin and Rosa Luxemberg. Even the Anarcho-primitivists are sounding rational compared to maga.

But not when they do it a second time after launching their first coup. Gotta keep pushing the limits if you're gonna be the GOAT dictator. Pretty soon he'll be doing yurchenko-double-pike-coups.

Trump will say he isn't going to fire Wray but when maga world rabidly extols him to do so, he'll then say he was just being responsive to "the mandate".

I mean, he's an adjudicated rapist and been convicted of 34 felonies, and didn't pay a political price for that. Republicans just don't have a depth they aren't willing to mine.

@Don Linn @donlinn.bsky.social
Um. Virtually no one has jumped to the merits of Patel because there aren't any.
And ...serious question... please tell me what political price Trump will pay for firing Wray and who will extract that price?
13/30
@Warner Crocker @warnercrocker.bsky.social
At this point in this comedy of crime I think the political price is close to zero for him. For the rest of us the price will be incalculable

@Don Linn @donlinn.bsky.social
Agree.

@Mr. Struggle @eric623.bsky.social
when was the last time Trump paid a political price for anything?

Trump fired Comey in 2017. Seems to have already set the precedent. Not sure why this is any different than what he did previously.

What political price did Trump pay when he fired Comey?

Russia-gate. But that won't happen this time.

Cute you think we're still in any form of a normal political world. He just got elected again. No one cares about anything. AND he can't run again, so, with the forever immunity SCOTUS gave him, there are no political prices for him to pay, and we are lawless against him.

This is why:
“People in power don’t feel constrained by rules and any remaining checks don’t feel empowered to be checks.”
Because they aren’t. Our institutions have failed us. Laws were broken but the people responsible were not held to account. We are in a terribly frail place right now

I'll be honest, there are so many rules and laws I never bothered to learn because I trusted those in power to follow the rules and hold each other accountable. How naive.

Trump does not abide by any rule. He is not normal. When will people understand that Trump is a maniac and will do whatever he wants. And nothing can be done about it..
