There’s a lot of positives for me. I’ve haven’t had this much fun watching a Falcon team in years. We have our QB, our offense is 100% going to improve next season. Our defense started to look serviceable at the end of the season. It was proven that our offensive play calling was tailored for a QB that lost a couple of steps, and we were still in the running to make the playoffs.

The team looks better and we are heading in the right direction. Can’t wait for next season.

And Falcon twitter is annoying me rn….all the negativity as if we were gonna make a Super Bowl run. We went from Jedi mind trick Arthur Smith, to tailoring an offense that tried to feature Bijan. Bijan would probably have half the yards this season under Smith

I appreciate the glass half full approach you have but there’s a lot to be upset about after last night and prior to Penix how the season fell apart after a 6-3 start.

Kirk’s play falling off a cliff
Coaching staff, specifically Raheem, defending and standing by Kirk at his absolute worst as the team endured a 1-4 slide that killed our lead in the division
Consistent clock mismanagement by the HC

We should’ve made the playoffs this season and if we’re gonna be real, based on how the QB situation alone was handled, someone or multiple people (coaches, FO, a combination of both) should be fired

You can't fire the owner :yeshrug: Cousins was Blank's call, and there's virtually nothing that could make me believe otherwise.

Too much is being made of Cousins' deal going forward. If you were against the deal from the outset then fine, but even if he was good, great, or just playable, we still would be paying the same money for the QB room next season. It "doesn't matter" whether it's Cousins or Penix starting from the standpoint that the money is already spent. The plan for this team is to win with ~$50 mil in the QB room, and as long as that happens that's all that matters.

All this is true, and we are still coming back next season a better team, one that can realistically contend in the playoffs. All the kinks, questions, and possibilities of this team was answered this season. That’s what got me excited. There are no excuses next season.

Praying that Koos downfall was a injury btw

It was a bad deal for an aging QB coming off a significant injury who got worse as the season wore on. I 100% disagree that the plan last offseason was to come into the season to commit that much to the QB room when you see the success Pittsburgh and Minnesota have had with journeyman QBs. We overpaid for Kirk, tried to rectify it by drafting Penix and now we’ll have a crazy dead cap number for a QB who will have only paid 14 games. None of that is good and there were other options this team could’ve used those resources on (draft capital or FA) that made more sense than what they did

Aight, so what was the plan then? And when/where do you believe that plan changed?

The plan was supposed to be all in for Kirk Cousins for minimum 2 years. That was in March. 45 days later with the 8th pick the Falcons select Michael Penix #8 overall. Something happened during that time that made them believe that Kirk wouldn’t make it through his contract and that they needed a new QB if the right one fell to them.

I understand the need to fix what had been one of the worst QB rooms in the NFL since Matt Ryan left. And I understand they felt that they were a decent QB away from competing in a mediocre division. I don’t believe they really thought that investing $180M into Kirk Cousins and spending your first round pick at the same position was the right move unless they quickly became convinced that Kirk wasn’t going to work long term

With the other holes on this team, I can’t believe they thought that was the right move

So we sign Kirk, get him in-house, and then somehow realize he's damaged goods after the fact but before the draft? That's plausible, but I don't see how they would find out anything new between signing him and the draft. In OTAs, sure, but a month after signing him? :patrice:

If that is the case though, kudos to them for being proactive because we'd really be fukked if we didn't take Penix. Everything else play out the same this season and we would be trying to talk ourselves into Jalen Milroe or some shyt right now :sadcam:
