That was them trying to sound realistic, with all the hype and money behind them they were expecting a lot of WWE fans to tune in as well. I think a million and some change is where they're going to stay at. Their main problem is that outside of Jericho's promos they can't create any storytelling.

There was one big difference in that war vs this war, and that's TNA had the balls to go against the A show.

TNT wanted at least 500k to start. Industry insiders said they could do 700k or a little more.

They have exceeded expert analysis and predictions thus far.

I was thinking that too but I think regular-season NBA does close to what that Warriors vs Lakers did last night. Playoff NBA though is a monster.

That was also the 10:30 game, is still preseason, & featured a Warriors team missing Steph though, their up against Boston vs Philly next week which is much better than the Hawks vs Knicks game this week that was actually going head to head with AEW/NXT

Other difference: NXT has been internet exclusive all those years and its max built in audience is about the size of AEW's audience. AEW is also an unknown so there is obviously more excitement because it's unclear how their shows are going to turn out while NXT is a reliable product that most of the viewers watch on WWE Network anyway.

NXT had over a million its first USA show as well. Both have a set audience of about 700k-1.3m and neither are going to vary much in either direction of those numbers. Based on trends both shows will be and stay under a million viewers by the end of the year and probably both be in the 700-800k viewers range.

It’s been on the network yes but it’s still an established brand to wrestling fans.

I wouldn’t be surprised if AEW dips to under a million because it’s on the edge now, I would say there is potential for growth though, I think there’s a bigger scope for growth than 1.3 million, I think it depends what they do. They have a good core audience but I think they need to do more to grow the audience further. Resting on laurels is not a good idea or only catering to their hardcore fan base. Give them some shyt for sure but also expand. If Bischoff was shown at the end of AEW and they teased him for next week the views the following week would be significantly up. I hope they don’t just cater to the hardcore elitist wrestling fans because that’s a limited demographic, they can be pleased for sure but I think they should also push boundaries. I didn’t enjoy the show this week overall. I hope next week will be better, from the sounds of it it will be as The Young Bucks in action and a dope main event.

Not true, everyone knows Bischoff from the Monday Night Wars era not to mention the successful general manager stint he had. The podcast with Conrad is also successful and he’s a trending topic now because of the firing. If they were able to act on that quickly and get him on last night if that was possible those are the kind of quick surprise moves that would help them.

It seems a lot of people on here don’t understand these things. I explained it previously but adding an element of surprise for the show would help them long term and making it seem unmissable cause you don’t know who’s gonna turn up when or what’s gonna happen.

That’s not to say you base the company on that, not at all, but adding in those elements at the right times helps. I’m telling you if what I said had happened it would 100 percent improved the following weeks ratings and much more people would be talking about the show. You can use that buzz to showcase the other talent. No-one is saying the show should revolve around him at all, but a 6 month to a year on air role could help them. I’m not even a big fan of his, I don’t think he was the right man to lead Smackdown either but for the benefit of the company I see how it makes sense. Having those with their own things going on like Podcasts etc helps too because they get to keep promoting.

AEW should think outside of the box, their bread and butter should be building their own stars and storylines but the occasional side course that could bring them attention and buzz doesn’t hurt either. It’s historically worked in the business in the past and it will again.

I’m not disagreeing with your logic, but your example is off base. Eric Bischoff is not going to draw any new viewers to AEW. The only people who would conceivably care about him I’d wager are already watching the show to begin with. Bringing him on board would echo mistakes of TNA and that’s exactly the kind of thing AEW is smart to actively avoid.
