Back in the pat burns (1992-1996)and pat Quinn (1998-2004) eras with players like gilmour/clark/potvin/sundin/Steve thomas/mogilny/roberts/tucker/cujo/belfour/mccabe, the maple leafs had the grit, the character, the passion, the heart, the coaching, the attitude, the veteran savviness, the hatred of losing, the elite goaltending, the hard working habits. They just lacked high end skill/talent, youth and energy. That’s why they lost to superior teams. They hated to lose and wanted to win more than anything.

Now the leafs have the high-end skill/talent, the energy and the youth but lack everything else.
