We should appreciate shows like The Wire and Breaking Bad while they existed/exist

The Wire didn't get the acclaim and the respect it truly deserved until about Season 3 and the space between 3 and 4. Ratings stayed low throughout though. So the audience really only discovered it after it was cancelled/not renewed.

Breaking Bad ripped a tonne off The Shield.

I guess Breaking Bad is better if you hate cop shows and would rather watch a music video with people searching a house for a cigarette :yeshrug:

:blessed:Game of Thrones is by far the best thing on TV right now.I feel lucky to witness such great TV. Breaking Bad is in my top 5 tho. Im stuck on Season 2 of The Wire and i can't get myself to finish it. This whole storyline on the docks is not interesting to me at all.

Ever since I watched the Season 3 DVD set that I won from that radio station, Ive been hooked. I used Netflix to catch up on 1, 2, and 4 at that point.

I also am one of the many who don't like season 2, probably because the previous season was hood-filled (my fav season btw), however it was still better than majority of the shows.

I think it was some of the characters werent likeable, Ziggy, Sobotka, etc.

The thing that makes breaking bad so good is the show doesn't allow characters to operate without consequences, there's little filler and the story feels very realistic. It's the same thing that made the wire great. Both shows are grounded in a sense of reality while being fictitious and escapism.

Loved 24 but there were times when I rolled my eyes because they kept going back tot he well to drag a plot out, force a love story, fake a reason for another season. Breaking Bad, Boardwalk, Game of Thrones, Wire all respect our time as viewers and limited the bull crap. They treat us as intelligent viewers and challenge us with sharp writing, acting and story telling.

24 was probably the best action based TV show to come so far but it did get kinda repetitive. I remember watching either DVD commentary or a making of around season 5 or 6 and the writers were joking about "oh no Jack's gone rouge again and no-one trusts him, Cloe will have to help him from inside, oh no CTU has a mole", which is why they moved the setting in the last two series. With 24 at some point you just had to throw realism out the window and enjoy it for the melodrama.

As far as respecting our time, the last season of Game Of Thrones had almost nothing happen until the last episode. I mean its a good show but season 2 had no protagonist at all, and I know thats true to the book but it makes it less engaging.
Not to mention chick gave birth to them dragon's at the end of Season 1 and came out of that fire like it was about to be on, but then it wasn't

And The Wire season 2 was one of the worst most dragged out TV seasons I ever seen. Season 1 was already slow but season 2 was unbearable. They saved it with season 3 but they dont get daps for "respecting our time" when they gave us that horrible waste of time with season 2.

Also, gotta disgree with puttin The Shield in with Prison Break. The Shield was a good show pretty much all the way through. Not great (aside from the season with Forrest Whitaker) but good. Somewhere between SOA and 24
