We gonna have a LOT of growing pains but I just want to see progression! That's the most important thing. We also need about 21 more players of Duke's caliber. Damn that boy makes it look effortless! He's gonna be a LEGEND b4 he leaves the U

I think the defense will get better as the season comes along. Once Porter gets back I think we'll see a change too! Remember, we have a LOT of freshman starting so once they get the hang of things we'll be aiight

I thought Porter was supposed to be back for GT.

A lot of talk about Duke and deservedly so, but Bush looks to be the real deal too. He is already our best safety, and it isn't even close. These youngsters are going to be fun to watch

i like Deon alot, its tough to gauge these young secondary players when the QB's have all day. Howard/Bush/Ant Crawford is a nice young nucleus back there, and hopefully Dallas Crawford gets moved back to S next spring instead of having him buried behind Duke and Clements

Eddie Johnson is a baller too, i think that may be Al's best find as far as under the radar 3* kids so far. good nose for the ball good tackler

Denzel Perryman Injury: Miami LB Reportedly Out Vs. Georgia Tech - The 7th Floor

The medicals on Denzel Perryman haven't been released to the public yet, but his availability for Saturday's game vs. Georgia Tech is, according to Manny Navarro, a foregone conclusion. Navarro reported on Monday that Perryman will be out against the Yellow Jackets, and likely longer.

According to Navarro's source, Perryman has a "deeply bruised high ankle sprain" and is wearing a protective boot. The hope is that the swelling will subside and Perryman can be reevaluated later this week, but he won't be manning the middle of Miami's defense in Atlanta.

I'll talk briefly about this loss after the jump, while also hitting quickly on a few other injury notes.

The loss of Perryman, as we discussed yesterday, could be crippling. Jimmy Gaines will likely start at middle linebacker next week, according to Navarro. To his left will be Eddie Johnson. The other starting linebacker will be Gionni Paul, Thurston Ambrister or Tyrone Cornelius, though all three will play either way. My guess on the starter would be Ambrister, for whatever that's worth. Miami also has Gabe Terry, and I wouldn't be shocked if Miami went big in some points and shifted Kelvin Cain to linebacker or even gave someone like Tyriq McCord some burn there. Or Miami might put three or four safeties on the field. Desperate times call for desperate measures, etc.

One player to keep an eye on is freshman linebacker Raphael Kirby. Kirby, who injured his knee in the preseason, participated in Miami's walkthrough on Monday. The Georgia Tech game was originally pegged as a possible returning point for Kirby, though his status is unknown. My guess is that he probably won't play on Saturday, and even if he does it will be for about a handful of plays. But he will be healthy soon, and given the state of Miami's linebacker core right now, will be thrown into the fire.

Allen Hurns also took part in Miami's walkthrough today, but his status for Saturday hasn't been updated beyond "we'll see."
