The Donaldson move isn't as bad as it looks for the Yankees.
He won't play at an MVP level but he gets on base quite a bit. They don't need him to 2015 Donaldson.

This is a relatively low risk, high reward situation for them. And they won't have to toss a few hundred million at Correa
It would be low risk if they weren't footing the bill on his salary, but they are and for a stingy franchise it may keep them from upgrading elsewhere.

Donaldson will probably post an all-star level woba and the fact that the Yankees get rid of Gary Sanchez alone makes me optimistic about this whole thing.

Getting rid of Gary isn't the problem. Having a catching duo that isn't even that good defensively combine for an .800 ops rounds out a pretty piss poor 5-9 in the lineup.

NYC
Braves cheap as fukk.

Already got Acuna and Albies on cheap deals and still would rather give prospects to get Olson instead of paying Freeman.

They figured they already won, so who cares if we have to let a key piece go. Fans are going to see the championship before the homegrown superstar that was a foundational piece for it.

Yankees got to do something
It's not cost effective to overpay in this market.

Freeman is already 32 years old.
Correa is 27 and worth a shot but why overpay for his bat when really all you need is a glove at SS?

The Yankees already have enough power bats in Stanton and Judge and Gallo.
They're probably going to either trade Judge or overpay him like a MF this year because he's coming up for free agency.

Next year's market doesn't have any real studs (not young ones, anyway) so it's possible NYY just hangs tight until 2024 when Machado and Devers could be on the market. Maybe hope that some of their minor league talent surprises them in the meantime
