Random but the Mariners really used to be loaded af back in the day. They forreal had The Kid and young ARod batting back to back :whoo:
What coulda been :wow:
Seattle had A-Rod, Griffey, Buhner, Johnson, Edgar Martinez and a solid hitting Paul Sorrento -- at the same time in the mid 1990s.

Here's a list of players the Cleveland Indians had at the ML level and in their farm system in the 1990s:

Albert Belle
Manny Ramirez
Kenny Lofton
Carlos Baerga
Paul Sorrento
Eddie Murray
Sandy Alomar
Brian Giles
Jim Thome
Omar Vizquel
Jeromy Burnitz
Julio Franco
Jeff Kent
Matt Williams
David Justice
Sean Casey
Richie Sexson
Bartolo Colon
Jose Mesa

Now granted, some guys had more success with other teams before/after Cleveland. But the sheer talent that went through that franchise is fukking ridiculous. As happy as I am that the Yankees had their dynasty in the 1990s, it's almost a damn crime that Cleveland didn't win AT LEAST ONE World Series with the talent they were able to identify.

Are we ready to have the conversation about Yordan being the real mvp and that if he played those other 9 games, he'd lead judge in EVERY category?
If you look at almost any metric of fangraphs or baseball savant, Yordan Alvarez is near the top on all of them.
And if you look at his expected statistics, his numbers would be even better.

He's absolutely the MVP if I had a vote. Though I think Aaron Judge has a strong argument also.

I've been in 18 years now and haven't witnessed the Mariners in the playoffs. There are kids who are in college and never seen the Mariners compete in the playoffs. That is just wild to me.

That '01 team choked badly.

Don't forget Felix and Ichiro. Team has always had some very talented players, but it's been one of the worst run franchises.

Y’all really ain’t made the playoffs that long? :picard:

If the Braves go just 2 years without making the playoffs we ready to fukk shyt up down here!

I've seen enough Yankees prospects over the years get rated highly to the point where I don't ever take them seriously. Hell, does anyone remember that Jesus Montero fiasco?

So I'm not really sure what to make of Volpe. If he's crushing in 2023, I'll hop onboard.

From that list, if I had to pick someone for a keeper league, I'm going with Grayson -- even with his recent injury.

I don't think Ohtani is as good this year as he was last year. Not as a hitter.

So I guess if you want to vote for him for Cy Young, that's fair. He's got some competition from Manoah/McLanahan/Cole/Verlander.
It makes me want to vomit but shyt, I might have to even give Martin Perez some credit for Cy Young hype. Miraculously he's been quite good.

hes not as good at the plate, but hes still got an .842 OPS and one of the best starting pitchers in the AL ?

I assume his MVP candidacy combines both, so Im surprised more people arent having him in talks with Judge & Yordan - I dont really have a strong opinion on it yet, I just think its interesting we dont really know how to properly evaluate his MVP resume because what hes doing is so unprecedented

I agree. But I think that's the thing with Ohtani. Because he pitches and hits, he has a unique advantage over everyone.

It's a credit to him. But I feel it's somewhat unfair to other players and the consideration they get for MVP.
If it's up to me, I think you vote for Ohtani for MVP or Cy Young. I don't think you should be able to vote for both.

He should be eligible for both. But let's say you were casting a ballot. If you vote for him as a hitter, you can't also vote for him as a pitcher. That's where I stand, anyway.

Nick Madrigal? Best case scenario that kid ends up becoming Dustin Pedroia.
Realistically? He's out of the league in 3 years.
I think fangraphs did a spray chart on madrigals ‘22 hits

This dude has 2 hits to the outfield all year he’s a slap hitting singles hitter, with absolutely no power who don’t draw walks :pacspit:

I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt this season cuz he’s been injured a lot
