Slightly?
The Yankees' issue is emblematic of the issue with baseball as a whole. The revenues have gone up so much yet the Yankee payroll by comparison has stayed the same. Mind you, I'm not one of those people who thought they shoulda paid for Correa and Freeman and everyone else, but they're not even considering signing guys anymore-- because of money, even players that made a ton of sense (Seager). It's less about what they're actually spending and what their philosophy is. They wanna be Tampa all the way down to how much they spend. The Yankees should never be on some "nah we can't sign such and such because we gotta re-sign Judge" as if they can't do both. They wanna be the smartest people in the room now. In an offseason with all these shortstops, the Yankees were drooling over Isiah Kiner-Falefa. The teams that flipped them proceeded to sign Corey Seager and Carlos Correa. As a result, this team which had a crazy young core 5 years ago has been essentially reduced to Aaron Judge (who i've been on record saying I wouldn't pay him) and now long term, the championship window won't reopen until Volpe and The Martian make their way up to The Show and who knows when that will be.
This franchise should never speak this way.
