Heard is the man. We always knew he could run but he's farther along as a thrower than I ever expected. Coaches really sold him short starting Swoopes over him due to throwing ability. Easily more decisive and accurate. He's a smart runner and has speed

Charlie sometimes puts way too much emphasis on practice. He didnt even start Bridgewater over a former walkon at Louisville (dude was a solid player though)

I said it before and I'll say it again. When he was pitching to Kyler Murray and all of TX HS...

you cant say you're going spread/uptempo but keep Watson as the OC. Its just squad peg/round hole offense. If he made the changes back then I think he really could have benefitted.

Watson is a great QB coach. But calling spread plays isnt his thing.

Heard is abou 6'1"-6'2", about 190. Swoopes is about 6'5" 240 with NFL arm strength and nice touch. Watson(the demoted OC) ran a West Coast offense that was apparently complicated with a huge playbook. Swoopes was the most advanced in this offense and his skillset fit it more than any other QB on the roster. In practice, where there is no real pressure and a QB coach is in love with your physical ability, everything is in your favor. Once the lights came on, outside of three games in his career, Swoopes has looked like a deer in headlights. Literally, before the ND, Swoopes was down there looking scared. Mouth and eyes wide open. Also, a lot of things Heard does aren't going to show up in practice drills. The thing that alarms me as well is that Heard looks like a better passer than Swoopes already. His pocket presence is better than Swoopes already. He throws much better intermediate throws than Swoopes. That's to go along with the electric legs and feet we already knew he had from high school. He was a 2-time state champion in second largest division in Texas high school football. He dominated that division. Swoopes could not win in one of the smaller divisions. A lot of coaches simply go with tangible over intangible. I suspect Heard would have passed Swoopes in practice eventually too even in the West Coast offense.

Happiest man at Texas right now: Tyrone Swoopes
