:patrice: :patrice:

is the battle between Ephraim and Gilead happening across translations :ohhh: the first judge of Moses must be when he saw "An Egyptian smiting a hebrew, and when he looked this way and that way and saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian"

but if the tribes of Israel are said to be able to return to Egypt if Joseph is alive...:jbhmm:

How does heaven become brass, and the earth iron? :why:

Despite rains from above ('copper' represents humidity), there will be drought below ('iron' represents aridity). The admonition here at Mount 'Eval parallels the earlier, more forceful, tοchaħah (reproof, reprimand, telling off) delivered at Mount Sinai in Vayyiḳra 26:19.

I was thinking about this again and how to fix it

because if it says that God will make those things like this, and like that. Then it can only be interpreted as the boundary of the serpent :jbhmm: cause it said to Eve that you will be "like" something, which is inherently the source of confusion

when is something definitely something and when is it "like" something (mirror reflections and the actual object)?

IE In the Torah it does not say that Abraham has a mother, but only a father (Terah). But the Talmud says that the mother of Abraham is Amathlai

Would that make the Talmud like copper? and the Torah like Iron? :lupe:

@Marks semi related, but if the Earth is in the center of the universe and everything revolves around it, does that mean the orbits of the sun, mercury and venus are within the Earth? whereas the outer planets are above the earth :patrice: an elohay vs eloheka debate

Context. And sometimes one verse will use the preposition while its parallel passage will not. For example, the verse you brought omits it; however, the text of the parallel passage (Vayyiḳra 26:19) does not: כַַּבַַּרְְזֶֶֶל kabarzel ('like iron'), כַַּנְְּחֻֻֻשָָָׁה kan'ħushah ('like copper').

IE In the Torah it does not say that Abraham has a mother, but only a father (Terah). But the Talmud says that the mother of Abraham is Amathlai
It is interesting you bring this g'mara as it was learned two weeks ago as part of our septennial דַַּף יוֹֹמִִי daf yomi ('daily page') cycle!

Anyway, the same passage continues with the question ?לְְמַַאי נָָָפְְקָָָא מִִנַַּהּ l'maai naf'ḳa minnaH? ('What difference does this make?') and gives the answer: לִִתְְשׁוּבַַת הַַמִִּינִִים litshuvat haminim ('as a retort to heretics' - should they ask why the names of the mothers of important figures are not considered in the Biblical account, they can be answered that their names are known from our oral tradition).

Would that make the Talmud like copper? and the Torah like Iron? :lupe:
Hmm... I don't think it does the two justice, although I can't say I have a metaphor at the moment that would.

The word for officer is also the same word for eunuch???
is potiphar infertile?
Yes, the word סָָָרִִיס saris can mean 'officer' and/or 'eunuch'. And there is a midrash that explains how Pοṭifar was given the [feminine] name Poṭi-fera upon making unharlem-like advances toward Yοsef, and for which reason the angel Gavri'el castrated him—ergo סָָָרִִיס saris; but Onḳ'lοs’s Targum translates both instances of this word using the Aramaic רַַבָָָּא rabba ('chief'), and this is the plain meaning.
