:francis:I'm conflicted. If they Yankees weren't so cheap, they could've had him 2 years ago. Now they're paying way more. Instead, they ended up trading for a shytty ass contract for a bat, they didn't need :snoop:
Keeping the proposed prospects that would've been dealt & only giving up a 2nd , 5th & 1 million in international spending money is a huge win.

Stanton was acquired on a slight discount.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
Money didn’t prevent the Yankees from getting Cole

If that trade went through, i seriously doubt they would've been paying this much.

The Yankees were being picky. They offered Fraizer or Chance Adams but not both.

They didn't want to give up Adujar, Torres or Florial and I wouldn't include them neither, but they also didn't want to give up Sheffield.

A package including Fraizer, Sheffield and Adams would probably have gotten it done.

He’s a Boras client. He was gonna be expensive no matter what

No Sheffield = No Paxton. Now you have both

Nah, the Pirates were trying to get over on the Yankees for Cole.

From us, they wanted either Andujar (RoY-candidate) or Torres (untouchable) plus Frazier and more. We had a variety of quality young arms for them to pick from, but they probably asked for Severino.

They accepted a lesser package from the Astros, in hindsight. SP Joe Musgrove, P Michael Feliz, 3B Colin Moran and OF Jason Martin was what they accepted for Cole. The Pirates weren't being serious, as check out what those 4 have done since the trade....Nothing of note.

Teams don't want to trade fairly with us, eff em. We go Evil Empire on them and let them hate. I approve the Cole signing, no matter the $$$ cost. We finally have a true shutdown ace and a formidable SP rotation. Now, we just gotta go out and win the WS 2-3 times to make the cypher complete.

One of the things to also pay attention to is the weakening of other teams.

Boston is rebuilding, trying to trade Price and Betts, stuck with Martinez who opted back in. JBJ, who knows. But they don't have much of a farm system to replenish.

Houston just lost Cole and appear to be trading Correa and Reddikk to the Reds, for Luis Castillo. Verlander ain't getting any younger. Greinke is Greinke. Now they are having issues paying their homegrowns.... And, they finally have been exposed for cheating. Let's see what MLB does with that.

We signed Cole, will re-sign Gardner and hopefully Betances, and wishing that we can add one more piece....Lindor. Think about that defense and that lineup.....Do it, Cashman.

Being greedy, if we go all in and are able to trade for Lindor (without giving up Torres, of course), we will sit atop the AL and possible MLB for years to come. Luxury tax is about to get negotiated up in the next CBA, so austerity won't be the issue. We should be able to extend Torres, Judge, Sevy, Sanchez (if he rebounds), Betances and Paxton within the next two years. If we're winning multiple WS, I have a feeling that Hal won't mind footing the luxury tax bill, plus with the YES network and playoff revenues about to be flowing heavy again.
