Batman a normal ass human, building retarded ass technology that could probably end world hunger, yet he using it to go toe to toe with aliens who can rewind time, and winning. He hated Superman and his ability to fly with zero explanation or propulsion system and the only thing to stop him is some mythical rock.

He wanted to create characters with flaws mentally, emotionally and physically. Add in some social commentary. Make them more down to earth and human.
