Lance Storm said it was supposed to be him vs Booker, but since Buff was a name more associated with WCW... well, rest is history.

I had listened to that’s vid you’re talking about. He had also said RAW was in Atlanta Georgia the NEXT WEEK. This was complete sabotage

Yeah it was sabotage and a self fulfilling prophecy. They ran about the worst match they could in an area that WCW had never even ran shows. Buff had been terrible for years at that point so to put him in the position to be the representation of WCW to the WWF audience was going to be a failure no matter what. And then they go to Atlanta and turn WCW heel in the absolute worst area of the country to do so. Vince didn't want the Invasion to work because he was never going to allow WCW to look good over the WWF, and he could afford to ruin it.

:francis:Imagine if Vince was coked up in his wrong mind and gave Lance Storm the match against booker. We would be watching some good quality WCW under Vince's umbrella and make racks. I just don't understand dude, like he embraces money but hates making money:dwillhuh:. Its like he hates to actually go above and beyond the call of duty wrestling wise :mindblown:

I'm one of the ones in the minority also that thinks that match wasn't nowhere near as bad as people say. Most wrestling fans just adopt the opinions of others & run with it because really it was just an average match given the time they had to work with. And it was definitely better than the 2 Bray Wyatt/Randy Orton Wrestlemania matches they had.

1. A match introducing the WCW brand to the WWF audience shouldn't have been a 5 minute title match with a DQ finish

2. That 5 minute match should not have had either guy pulling rest holds 45 seconds in

I stopped watching wrestling at the time, but after finally seeing this infamous match, yeah it wasnt good, but it didn't stand out to me as some all-time garbage match or anything. I've seen some truly awful matches and this wasn't really one of them, they just didn't click, the crowd wasn't into it, and it wasn't good. But it didn't really get actively bad like some matches do.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
I don't hate Buff like a lot of people, but when the graphic came up that he and Booker would be wrestling for the WCW title on RAW, I literally hit the :unimpressed:. The first match to reintroduce the audience to WCW is Booker vs. Buff fukking Bagwell. I know the roster of WCW wrestlers were pretty slim pickings at the time, but Booker vs. Bagwell is the best that you've got to offer?!? :what: If Vince has just held out a little longer - he could've got Flair, Hogan, Hall, Nash, Rey Jr., and Goldberg in due time and we could've got a real Invasion storyline. Dammit, if only HHH hadn't tore his quad. :snoop:

Ever since Ted Turner called him and said he was getting in the "Wrasslin Business ", he's seen them as an entity that wanted to out him out of business.
