Maybe they don't want to work with Cavill or just prefer the characters they chose. I been saying Supes standing in the world isn't what it used to be.

I doubt it has anything to do with Cavill (dude isn't known as being a dikk to work with or anything) but probably is just no one wants to touch the third rail that is Superman because no matter what you do with it some portion of the public will shyt all over it as not being "true to the character".

So according to The Hollywood Reporter's Heatvision newsletter, Gunn was made an offer to pick the DC property he wanted to work on (the list of properties included Superman) and Gunn chose Suicide Squad. Supposedly the same offer was made to James Wan and Ava Duvernay when they were approached by WB and those directors passed on Superman to chose Aquaman and The New Gods respectively. Wonder why people are avoiding Superman? I get why Gunn would say no since he had just been involved with Brightburn which is basically a deconstruction of the Superman archetype. Even though Heatvision alluded to Gunn taking an interest in Krypto while discussing what he would do.

There’s still no roadmap for Superman in the 21at century. Whether you like Snyder’s Superman or not, the movies did absolutely no world building with his mythology.

Nolan, in some ways based his Batman on a reverse mirror of Burtons. Tackling parts of his character the 89 version didn’t cover and using the comics as supporting evidence.

Lois, Perry, Lex, Metropolis, have no identity. The movie could just as easily have been made in 1995 as 2005 or 2011.

People assumed Lex was supposed to be a Zuckerberg style Lex but it ended up just being crazy, maniac.

Suicide Squads membership changes a lot so I don’t see the problem with Gunn getting his own version. I’m sure the WB will insist on Deadshot/ Harley remaining the key holdovers for box office and Gunn can fill in the rest with his own picks.
