Supposedly the same offer was made to James Wan and Ava Duvernay when they were approached by WB and those directors passed on Superman to chose Aquaman and The New Gods respectively. Wonder why people are avoiding Superman? I get why Gunn would say no since he had just been involved with Brightburn which is basically a deconstruction of the Superman archetype. Even though Heatvision alluded to Gunn taking an interest in Krypto while discussing what he would do.
There’s still no roadmap for Superman in the 21at century. Whether you like Snyder’s Superman or not, the movies did absolutely no world building with his mythology.
Nolan, in some ways based his Batman on a reverse mirror of Burtons. Tackling parts of his character the 89 version didn’t cover and using the comics as supporting evidence.
Lois, Perry, Lex, Metropolis, have no identity. The movie could just as easily have been made in 1995 as 2005 or 2011.
