Don't think this will surpass Elementary on CBS from last decade.
That's typically the case with pilots and things get rewritten or dropped altogether as the season goes on.I watched this last night, and while I think I'll try another episode or two (since pilot episodes aren't always all that great), this was rough.
Worst part of it is that with the way Watson is characterized, about halfway through the episode, I asked why they bothered making this a show about Watson if they were just going to write him exactly like nearly every modern day version of Sherlock, down to forcing "The game is afoot," at the end, and finding a way to give him is own drug use he relies on as a crutch as well.
The supporting cast at his clinic isn't great either. One of them is supposed to be Chinese lady who was adopted by Texans as a child, but neither looks asian, or sounds believably Texan. They cast one guy as twins for no real reason, and then have one of them do the cliche exposition dump disguised as being an a$$hole to everyone around them thing.
The pilot also seems to be telegraphing some likely obvious plot twists, but maybe that's more of a commonality with pilot episodes than it is what should be expected from this show.
Didn't see the pilot yet but to answer your question, it's for 2 reasons.Worst part of it is that with the way Watson is characterized, about halfway through the episode, I asked why they bothered making this a show about Watson if they were just going to write him exactly like nearly every modern day version of Sherlock
