I am not sure what the programs are in DC but in NJ women below a certain income level get their childcare subsidized by the state. Same with health care for them and the children.

It's a numbers question in a lot of cases.
The benefits cut off at certain income levels, and some people would rather make less and keep the benefits, rather than make more and pay out of pocket.

It's like some folks will take jobs under the table, just to stay on unemployment/disability/social security.
Folks will spend down their assets to get into government retirement facilities.

There are all sorts of "tricks" that people (and corporations) use to get the government to pay for it - even if it harms them in the long run.

The right wing supreme Court that made abortion a crime..
Is there a time limit for accessing abortion care in DC?

No. Abortion is legal at all stages of pregnancy in DC and is provided when patients and physicians, together, determine it is medically appropriate. Patients may consult with their doctors and make decisions that best protect their health and safety, even later in a pregnancy.

Does DC law require parental notification if someone under 18 is seeking an abortion?

No. You do not need permission to have an abortion in DC—not from your parents, guardian, or the other person involved in the pregnancy. And your medical records about the abortion are confidential.

Nice try though :umad:

Read the article it tells you what each woman did with the money.

Shout out to the women who are putting it to good use, but my fear is that what happens when you start to get single mothers who will use the money towards themselves and not towards their kids/home/bills etc.

What a surprise

If money can help ukranians and Israelis so much that we flood these countries with money every couple of months, if money is so important that NYC is issuing pre paid credit cards to migrants, maybe....just maybe.....people who actually live and pay taxes here in America could use some of that money too and it will better their lives.

I'm shocked :troll:

Yea but that is a systematic issue. The wages are so bad that it doesn't incentivize people. This is why I am a big proponent of free public school up to the college level.

I wonder which one they'll pick.

I'm sure they'll spend the money wisely

Okay, I guess I can rock with that

Hmmm

Well I'm assuming these women were bout their business right?

I can understand that when you're working a couple of jobs and have a kid

Well maybe this was enough money so that she could go back to school or find a job in a decent paying field.

Perhaps she used her money to pay for daycare for Nazir?

What does she mean blow it? How much of the 10,800?

Wait what? At least tell me she went to Disney World?

Well I guess you gotta spend that much when it's just you and your kids.
It's a shame the father is out of the picture.

Well she spent the money on school books and enrichment materials right?

Well at least, it all went to the kids. I know some mothers get child support and it just goes straight to the Salon

Well, I guess she took cute photos of her kids right?

....Well what sort of long lasting life lessons did the kids learn?

Hmm...we all gotta start somewhere

Okay, I can rock with this.

So lemme recap
10,800 given
6,000 spent on a trip to Miami Beach
and 4,000 spent on bills and a used car? (gas, insurance, registration, maintenance...)

Naw, this reporter got to be tripping. Lemme see another chick and see how her life changed.

Erika James (32) - Monthly payments

Already had an 11 year old, gets pregnant again.
Can't work her job at the post office. Then comes back at half time.
Takes the monthly payments and just keeps up with her bills.
At most she spends a couple hundred on a birthday party.

Stacie Adams - Lump sum of 10,800

3 kids at the start
BA in Psychology from Howard, Master's Degree from Catholic U.
Got a job with the Govt (50K), and lost the job when she couldn't pass her Social Worker license

Where did the money go? 2 months of bills

Now making 70K with 4 kids.

smh.

But this did prove that a form of Universal Basic Income worked right?

Had to be a white person to write this up..

Right?

One person used the money recklessly :yeshrug: doesn't invalidate the rest of the mothers who received the money

In light of the fact that New York is just handing out money to small hats I'm not mad at this.

shyt at least DC gave some money to some Black women ( I know hispanics could've gotten this money too)

No taxpayer dollars went into this program tho. :why:

Some rich white people in a private foundation used black women as guinea pigs in their social experiment.
Guinea pigs:dahell: these are real life humans that benefited greatly from this little bit of money and it helped their lives. Stop acting like a bytch jealous of single mothers or at least pretend you aren’t .

Crazy how just 10k can change someone situation

That’s crazy how $900 a month is life-changing for some people.

I’m glad they were able to benefit from this pilot program

Honestly it's not that crazy. That would be life changing money for over half of the country... in theory.

I think like 20% of adults don't have any type of emergency savings at all.
The Fed Reserve surveyed and found that roughly 40% of adults can't comfortably cover a $400 emergency expense
And like 56% can't cover a $1,000 emergency

But due to a lot of bad spending habits, in reality, it wouldn't be life changing money.

I agree with this :yeshrug:

We need more babies, I was literally just thinking about what I would do if I won the lottery. One of my plans would be to set up a "family planning" fund where anyone having a baby would get $10K from the fund, $25K for anyone's first-time marriage.
