I could tell Lupe..
I love Lupe Fiasco, but this album ainโ€™t it.

Not even because son ainโ€™t spittin, because he is.

But even with the Jazzy beats, the album just feels.. SOULLESS?!

And Lupe needs to stop these mumble half-effort sing songy hooks too, itโ€™s just lazy.

It just feels like he approached the album too โ€œformulaicโ€.

Even though thatโ€™s an inaccurate description because thereโ€™s a formula to rap/Hiphop.

But this SAMURAI album feels damn near robotic to me.

Bigfoot prolly my favorite song on the album.
It feels the most natural/organic sounding song me, even though he went offbeat a couple times tryna cramp in too many words a couple bars.

Samurai is extremely bland, it lacks seasoning..

My guest this week is Chicago rapper, producer, label head, and MIT professor, Lupe Fiasco. We spoke about True Detective, being inspired by his fatherโ€™s record and film collections, practicing martial arts and African drumming, references and concepts in his music, creating across eras, the art and pros and cons of criticism, his bond with producer Soundtrakk, and the creative process behind his years-in-the-making latest album, the Amy Winehouse-inspired Samurai.
