Nah, no dream per se. Just reliving and regretting his choices but it was too late to make a change. :wow:

Was it all a dream, and Caine's entire life was flashing before his eyes before he died? :ohhh:

No, it was not a dream, but yes, his life was flashing before his eyes.

This is my favorite movie of all time, and this scene is the only flaw in the film to me. The way they shot the scene, it made it look like Caine shielding Anthony was completely unnessceaary. That scene wasn't directed good at all.

I have literally seen this movie at least 300 times. Me and my cousin used to watch this shyt every single day for three summers growing up. I could seriously write a 1000 page book with analysis of this film.

One thing that always stood out to me was the absence of any gang talk/activity. I'm sure the Hughes brother did that on purpose, but I would love to hear the reasoning. To have a film centered around hood life in Watts at the height of gang violence, and to have no mention of the crips/bloods was interesting.

there is something about this on the dvd. i think they probably say something about not wanting to take the focus away from the life in general. they do make colours a subtle thing. it's not ABOUT gangs & sets even though it's set in that time & place. i think if you knew the hoods & names of the streets you would probably pick up more on what they rep. then again you could argue that none of the main characters weren't actively bangin; just affiliated.

Caine is def not bangin, in fact the whole movie is about him finally getting down but you could probably make a case for A-Wax or O-Dog being down, i can't ememebr every scene off top but i don't think they wore red at all, i think the hood Caine & them lived in was a crip hood whereas the cats that murked Harold were bloods.

Good analysis. I need to cop the DVD for the bonus features cause I need to hear that commentary. But yeah, I can't really recall them wearing red, besides Caine in the opening scene. Caine even rocked the solid blue shirt in the scene where his granddaddy was getting on his nerves talking that religious shyt, then him and O-Dog stomped out Ilenas cousin, so maybe it was some subtlety to it. A Wax was a crip in real life so, I'm not surprised he stayed in the blue flannel. But yeah, they definitely stayed in a crip hood

I think it's a testament to the talent of the Hughes brothers to make that film without one mention of the Crips and Bloods. It would have been much easier to flaunt that element. Boyz In The Hood, a movie that constantly gets compared to Menace, definitely played on the gang angle with the Bloods that had beef with Doughboy (who I'm sure was a Crip)
